Our jaws dropped when we walked into Modesto and Rosita's casa particular and saw the 20+ foot ceilings, the exquisite Spanish floor tiles, the elegance of the living and dining rooms with their combined antique and 1950s decor, and the lush tropical plants filling the center open-air patio. We were also greeted by Chuli, Modesto's playful, obedient and loving terrier who accompanied us up to the threshold but never into our room, and quietly positioned himself at each meal at our feet, keeping us company. In spite of the bustle of Santa Clara, the house in its entirety was quiet and immensely comfortable. Modesto offered us free use of all the common areas, including his good sized TV and the computer in their bedroom. There is a small library area with international titles and Cuba! n historical and legal materials. A walk to the back of the house brings you to a small, open-air seating area. We fell in love with Santa Clara and these hosts, and decided to stay for four days, making Hostal Rosita our base of operations as we traveled throughout the region. Returning "home" each evening we found Modesto and Chuli sitting on the stoop seeimgly waiting for us. Modesto is a real insider to the city and the region and always gave us precise and accurate directions -- no small thing in a land with very few road signs. Neither Rosita nor Modesto speak much English but their warmth and eagerness to help easily overcomes any language barriers. If you do speak Spanish, you are in for a treat because both of them are engaging conversationists and extremely knowledgeable about the life and times of Cuba.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfertable, Colonial, Hidden gem, Roomy, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house, Patio
Amenities: Internet, Parking service, TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our comfortable-sized room had a double bed and a twin bed in it, a stocked refrigerator, an air conditioner and a comfortable bathroom. It cost 25 CUCs per night.
How was the food they offer?: Rosita prepared a different offering of Cuban cuisine each night. To say the portions were generous wouldn't do them justice. We even took leftovers from one evening's fare for a large picnic lunch the next day. She is a wonderful cook and the food was equisitely prepared, presented and delicious. Dinner cost 8 CUCs. Heaps of fresh mango, pineapple, papaya, mamey and bananas and freshly squeezed fruit juice, started off each breakfast. We also had toast, jam, scrambled eggs with onion and cheese (once even an egg white omelette)and Cuban coffee or hot chocolate. Breakfast cost 4 CUCs.
Other services they offer: Each night Modesto arranged for us to park our rental car safely (1 CUC) with an option for it to be washed whenever we asked (1 additional CUC). Rosita cheerfully did our laundry at a cost of 4 CUCs.Even a pair of hugely muddy sneakers was scrubbed clean as a whistle -- at no extra cost.
Other comments: We cannot recommend this casa particular highly enough. We had a spectacular time there.

Excellent House. Very clean, comfortable and hosts were rather special! Air conditioning and hot water available. Its location is rather convenient since the neighborhood is very well illuminated and quiet but near (walking distance-2 blocks)to the touristic spots.
100% recommended to anyone traveling to Santa Clara!!!

Casa style: Fantastic hosts, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Garden, Ceiling fan
How was your room?: Large, clean and comfortable
How was the food the offer?: Delicious and plenty; I particularly like the home-made guava dessert. They served dinner and breakfast at a lovely patio, which is rather romantic, full of flowers and plants
Other services they offer: Mini bar with beer, wine, coke and water was available in your room.
Other comments: They have two rooms, in one of them Che Guevara slept a couple of nights.

It is located in a rather strategic and quiet area, tow blocks from the "tren blindado" and two blocks from the "boulevard".

We would like to recommend this Casa in Santa Clara.
Ana & her son are very helpful hosts. (While Ana only speaks Spanish, her son his English is very good).
The casa is very close to:
- The National Bus Terminal (Viazul)
- The Plaza de la Revolucion (The main attraction in Santa Clara)
It is a bit out of the center, but a safe neighbourhood and we found it a very pleasant walk to the center of the town.
Breakfast & Dinner can be taken in the casa at a good price and are both huge in size and very good in quality.

So all in all, a very good place for people spending 1 or 2 nights in Santa Clara.

Pedro and Angela are fantastic hosts and have a lovely casa in probably the best location in Santa Clara, with a balcony overlooking the main square. Angela is a great cook, no doubt perfecting her skills when she lived in Paris. They have a great pride in their casa and Pedro could not have been more helpful to us during our stay. We highly recommend this casa
