Lumino
y Heriberto
Calle Orlando Nodarse #3
Entre Calle Adela Azcuy & Joaquin Perez
Vinales

Lumino is the grandmother of this casa and a vivid lady who likes
to talk to you in slow spanish and help you where she can. Her son
Heriberto speaks a few words of english and is very friendly.
The room is separated from the house and has aircon, fan and private
bathroom with toilet and bath/shower with hot and cold water.
Outside you can sit and relax in the patio and enjoy the fresh mango
juice from Lumino.
If you like a walk, ask if Lumino will give you a tour in the village.
You can park you car in the small street next to the house, 1 CUC
a night.
Lumino and Heriberto were a great help to us when we needed a new
tyre for our car.
Go to Vinales, ask for Lumino (everybody knows her) and have a wonderful
stay!

Vinales
is a great place to end your trip, it is calm, beautiful and life
goes at a slower pace, a couple of days will be well spent there.
Lumino will set you up with anything you need, and as far as things
to do, you have the Indian caverns, horseback riding, gorgeous walks
an hikes in the valley, music and dance at the Casa de la Musica
in the evenings (this is so much fun!)and the beach about 45 min
away by car.
You can get a driver to take you up north to the beautiful calm
beaches with crystal blue waters, but watch out for mosquitoes,
sometimes when there is no wind it can get uncomfortable. The beaches
are almost empty, and if you walk to the left when you arrive, you
can choose between a bunch of different ones. We walked for about
10-15 min to the left, in and out of the forest till we found a
big
tree in the middle of the beach which provided great shade in the
hot sun.
Lumino’s
place gives you more privacy than any other place as the cabin is
separate from the house, it is also newly built which is a nice
break from the sometimes run down places in Cuba. Lumino is an extraordinary
person who will help you with practically anything you need, and
make you feel very comfortable and home in her casa.
Your travel medicine kit should consist of :
Pain
reliever/fever reducer
Anti diarrhea pills !!!!
Antibiotics (if you have them)
Band aid
Anti bacterial cream for any cuts
ear plugs
Sunscreen
Bring all the shampoo, conditioner, tampons, cremes, toothpaste
etc. you are going to need for the trip, as things are either hard
to find, or outrageously
expensive. Do not rely on buying things you need Toilet paper (it
is good to bring a roll or two) or Kleenex for any need.
Also, as food sometimes is hard to find, I recommend some power
bars to tie you over when you get hungry, and/or any granola, trail
mix, dried nuts and
fruits, this WILL come in handy.
PS.
Only if you feel like it am I mentioning this, please feel free
to do what ever you want:
If there is any medicine or old clothes, Spanish written magazines
or books, kids stuff like old toys, etc, Cuba is the perfect place
for it, Lumino or anyone else will literally take anything you have
to spare.
There is a shortage of everything in Cuba, except for hospitality.
Kind regards,
Caterina

Their
room is a in a new separate building, very clean, on-suite with
a wonderful outdoor patio. It is extremely private. The meals were
some of the best we had on our trip again for similar prices. We
were packed off with bread fruit & freshly squeezed fruit juice
for our daily trips. They make fabulous mojitos and have a great
friend called Ismael who teaches English Language (and speaks many
others) and does walking tours. We tried many fruits & vegetables
and Lumino kindly gave me a cooking lesson on how to make Banana
Fritter omlette delicious!

I
just got back from a fabulous trip to Cuba, and in Vinales
I stayed in a great place, like no – other around.
The casa was separate from the owner’s home, so you
had your private little cabin, which was brand new and tastefully
built and decorated. There were no separate cabins for tourists
at any of the other casa particulares I inquired at in Pinar
Del Rio, this it was made this place more of a personal space
where you could hang out at.
The owners; Lumino & Heriberto were the nicest, most generous
people I met on the trip, and took great care of me when I
fell ill one day.

A
casa particular located in a quiet alley from Calle San Juan
(on the way to Maria La Gorda) on walking distance from the
noisy city center. It is possible to park your car in a locked
garage at the other side of the street.
Almost the whole first floor is reserved for guests with:
- Bedroom
for 2 persons, huge closet and view on the back yard
- A
wide private bathroom with shower, toilet, wash stand and
towels
- A
private space to relax, sit, read when you prefer some privacy
... nevertheless you are always welcome downstairs too.
A
very relaxing porch with rockingchairs in front of the house
or at the backside.
All was very neat and clean in perfect shape.
The family hosts Haydeé and Pepe with a grownup son
and daughter, grandma is living next door. They are very kind,
loving, modest and quiet people.
Aswell breakfast as dinner was abundantly, well prepared and
tasty.
We
had a great time with this family, it was cozy with a space
for privacy when you wishes for privacy. Pepe and his children
speak Spanish, grandma and Haydeë not but with hands
and feet we had a good conversation.

While
in Vinales, we stayed at the "Villa Esperanza"
Our hosts were very gracious, the room was comfortable,
with a private
bathroom, the meals were fabulous, and, best of all,
there was a wonderful
porch to sit on and watch the world go by. |

They
were the greatest cooks in Cuba!!! Serious, I highly recommend
this place. All was great, fish, chicken, frijoles, rice,
fruit, everything!
The street is very peacefull and quiet, you have your own
bathroom en own house with porche and rockingchairs.
Very kind people.
