Havana
Vedado Casa Particular
Havana
Vedado Casas
Vedado,
with its wide, planned streets, is much easier to negotiate
than Centro and is best tackled on foot. Running northeast
to southwest and infused with the salty Malecón air
is Calle 23, or La Rampa, the setting for all manner of pre-revolutionary
vicissitude and vice – now a banal jumble of airline
and government offices, seasoned with steamy nightspots, and
dominated by the historic Hotel Habana Libre. Crouching below,
looking like an interplanetary spacecraft in a botanical garden,
is Coppelia, an ice cream parlour and post-revolutionary symbol
of egalitarianism where thousands of lip-smacking Cubans queue
each week for their fix of confectionary Nirvana. Calle 23
reaches the unmissable Cementerio Colón, before sweeping
down to the Río Almendares.

Casa
Ania & Joel
(unfortunately no address)
Tel:+53 7 870 48 81
I'm
just back from a few weeks in Havana and I stayed in
a wonderful casa, it was in between centro and verdado.
It would be great if you could add it to your list on
Cuba Junky as this casa is the reason I fell in love
with Cuba. it is Ania and Joel and I really felt like
I was part of their family.
We
paid 20 CUC a night for two of us and that included
a big breakfast every morning. Ania and Joel also help
organise trips to Vinales and Varadero and they got
us "local price" on the wah-wahs instead of
travelling like tourists for expensive prices. |
