Havana Vedado, with its wide, planned streets, is much easier to negotiate than Centro Havana and is best tackled on foot. Running northeast to southwest and infused with the salty Malecón air is Calle 23, or La Rampa, the setting for all manner of pre-revolutionary vicissitude and vice, now a banal jumble of airline and government offices, seasoned with steamy nightspots, and dominated by the historic Hotel Habana Libre
