Casa de Alina
Address:
370 Calle de Infanta (near Neptuno)
Havana
Casa de Alina was a marvelous host and gourmet chef. Her home, with distinctive pink balcony nicely appointed with rockers and plants, is situated directly above a bakery and a bustling part of Havana Central. Our accommodations were comfortable, shared bathroom felt private, balcony views of inner-city Havana goings-on made a perfect retreat after a busy day touring the City. Easy walking distance to the Malecon, Havana Abuelo and Parke Central.
Pototo was a very helpful advisor, setting up our arrangements in short order. What a memorable experience! We will definitely return to the warm and hospitable accommodations that helped make our trip so marvelous. Thanks, Senora Alina & Cuba-Junky.

I have the best memories from that house, because the family is so nice and helpful, they will do almost every thing, so you can have a nice stay at their house. and in Havana. The house is only few blocks from Malecon and the Prado street. So 2 minuts walking and you can find everything.

Dr. Alejandro's place is a great clean place to stay in Cuba's capital. It was the second time I stayed there because it is situated on the Malecon, some 10 minutes by foot to Havana Vieja. There two big spacious rooms, one shared bathroom, everything very clean, and the best part is the huge living room - some 7m high - and the ocean view from it!
Fantastic place!
You will probably miss from the outside, but inside it is a gem!

Casa Elsa
Address: don't recall
Havana

This casa was a last minute booking, but we asked for no stairs and some garden. We arrived to an apartment building and had to climb two stairs with all our suitcases. When we got there, the 2 bedrooms had a shared bath. We were charged the same as for a private bath. The shower was barely warm. And...no garden. But above all, the hostess, who was quite nice to us, spent many hours talking on the phone, all agitated about a neighbor and we heard too much about it. It was not a calm place to stay.
Pototo was helpful in booking from the states. It is hard to find any casa without one set of stairs, but two or three sets can be avoided.

I booked a casa particular with Ivan and Cristina Lopez, 256 Manrique between Neptuno and Concordia, central Havana in Sept. 2009 for 2 weeks during the Christmas period. The period I booked for was Christmas 2009. I confirmed by email one week before I went, that yes everything was in order and I would be arriving as planned. I arrived at the house on 27th Dec. to be told by Ivan that he thought I would not arrive and he gave away my room!!
I had travelled from Europe and as you can imagine I was not a happy camper. He arranged for me to stay downstairs in the house of Fernando and Rosa. It was a dump and they tried to rip me off for meals and doing my laundry. They were contantly watching me and I had to ring the doorbell if I came in later than midnight. After I returned home I sent an email to Ivan saying I was not happy about how I was treated. He wrote back with a completely different excuse to the one he gave me in Havana as to why he gave away my room. He cannot be trusted and I would not recommend anyone staying in his house or with Fernando and Rosa downstairs. They are not nice people, and you could arrive Ivan’s house with a reservation only to be turned away.
Casa style: No frills,
How was your room?: very basic. they changed the bedsheets only once in two weeks. very noisy. no privacy
How was the food the offer?: poor

I really like the casa, the room is quiet, has private bathroom, but on the other hand I have a great contact with the family. The people are very kind. Also, the house is nice, it is a colonial house with a large living room. And I spend a lot of time on the balcony, it is on the first floor and you can observe daily life in Centro Habana. The casa is in centro habana, so you are in the middle of life of habana, but still you are in the safer part of Centro Habana, close to El Vedado. The casa owner knows La Habana very well and can tell a lot of things about daily life in Havana and he also likes to talk.
Casa style: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Colonial, Cozy, Roomy, Safe
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony,
How was your room?: The bed is good, the room is quite spacy, there is a private bathroom, refrigerator in the room and airconditioning. Also, in Summer the room is relatively cool, so I dont need the airco.
How was the food the offer?: The breakfast is good, has plenty of fruit as I like it. You can get any type of food (camarones, pescado), but I prefer to eat the regular cuban food with the family: picadillo, frigoles y arroz.
Other services they offer: Washing laundry, sending emails, helping you with all your questions about Havana
