Casa Tejera
My review: This house has a bedroom in the back section with a single bed available under the bedroom stairs which gets cooled by the upstairs A/C and wall fan.
There is access to the roof terrace directly from the bedroom and a balcony accessable by walking through the front of the house where one can view the street.
The gem of the house is the owner who is knowlegable, friendly and always ready for a good conversation this type of person its not easy to find.
How was your room?: The room was clean and quiet from must street noise, even during carnival
How was the food they offer?: The food here is good, the lady who cooks is very friendly and will try to accomodate your request
Other services they offer: Tour cars. As in any other place, make sure that you discuss the price in advance

Casa Tejera
My review: Great casa only a few blocks from main downtown parks and music venues. Juan is a very charming and dynamic individual who speaks english well, plus he's a cultural gold mine ... knows all about the best of Santiago's rich music and art scene. He's also a historian of all things Santiago de Cuba. He has a very nice family and his wife Nastia is very sweet and a wonderful cook. The room is built on the top level terrace (designed by Nastia, an architect) which also has a very large common outdoor area for sitting and enjoying the view of the city. There's a private bathroom downstairs from the bed but apart from the rest of the house as one entire private unit though the entry is through the main house. Stayed 7 nights and had a hard time leaving.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Safe, Children in the house, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: The room was perfect- nicely designed multi-level with dressing area and bath on first level and big bed one quick flight of open stairs above
How was the food they offer?: Amazing - great variety, many different fresh fruits always way more than enough to eat. Better than anything you'll find at the restaurants.
Other services they offer: laundry
Other comments: Best casa particulare experience in 3 weeks of travel.

Casa Tejera
Fantastic host who gave freely of his time to show us around both the carnival and the surrounding countryside. The food was excellent and the room comfy. Better outside chairs would help but we had blow up cushions.
The roof space was huge and you could choose to look over the street or retreat to watch the bats.
Juan's English is fantastic so he could help us partly fill in the huge gaps in our understanding of this country.
Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Comfy with good air con. Bathroom downstairs. Like a little duplex
How was the food they offer: Excellent. Best omlettes around.

You couldn't ask for better hosts than Juan Antonio and his family. The room is a loft (designed by his architect wife!) with private roof top garden very close to the centre of the city. Juan Antonio speaks excellent English and is very patient with guests who don't speak Spanish. He is a wealth of knowledge about his city, which he loves. Plus we had the BEST FOOD WE ATE DURING OUR 2 WEEK TRAVELS IN CUBA! If you're going to Santiago, email Sr. Antonio first!
Casa style: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfertable, Hidden gem, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe
Amenities: Private entrance, Private bathroom, Balcony, Garden,
How was your room?: Architect designed loft with private roof top garden. Breathtaking view of the city! Exceptionally clean. Private bathroom. Wonderful.
How was the food the offer?: The absolute best! Sr. Antonio and his family buy organic whenever possible. I really felt we were eating in a the healthy way a Cuban family would eat.
Other services they offer: Sr. Antonio speaks fluent English and can arrange for private taxi tours to interesting areas outside the city.
Other comments: Our stay with this family was the highlight of our trip. We can't recommend these people highly enough. And we met folks who were just leaving. They had travelled from Quebec and felt the same way. You'd be lucky to stay here! |
