Casa Colonial Mercedes

My girlfriend and me were in this Casa for 2 nights and the family treated us sooo well!! Mercedes is a lovely woman who cooks very well and she gave us the best dinners and breakfasts we had in Cuba. Incredible value and impossible to finish all the food!!! The fresh pineapple juice in the morning is the BEST ever!!! She even cleaned our trainers after a horse riding morning in the rain and mud. The son, Maikel, was very friendly too and he will arrange anything you need in Vinales and the whole Valley. We visited the Indio cave, the Mural de la Prehistoria and a general view from the Hotel Los Jazmines of the whole Valley which is beautiful. He arranged us a horse riding morning visiting a tobacco plantation where a farmer explained us the whole tabacco process.
Research about the Cayo Levisa hotel because with good weather this place is a paradise island!! Very handy from Vinales.
I would recommend this Casa Mercedes to anyone who wants to go to Vinales. You won't regret this choice!!!

what a fabolous time we had at mercedes and mikaels. we are vegetarian and mercedes catered for us superbly. Food great accomodation first class host estupendo! its like staying at you mothers nothing is to much trouble for them. I BEG YOU IF YOU STAY AT ONE CASA IN CUBA STAY AT THE CASA COLONNIAL MERCEDES.
we were booked for 3 nights but stayed a fourth even though we were on a time scale.

Casa Colonial

Best accomadation in Cuba, best food in Cuba, friendliest host in cuba. We only spent one night here and I think it was one of the few times that my wife cleared her dinner plate. Sitting on the porch smoking cigars drinking rum with Mikael and his wife was very pleasant. My advice is go to Vinales to stay here and meet these lovely people and as a bonus you will see some lovely scenery.

Casa Colonial Mercedes

We felt very welcome in Casa Colonial Mercedes and were extremely well looked after. Food was plentiful and tasty and quite distinct from other Casas we had stayed in - a welcome change. Mercedes is an amazingly warm person and went out of her way to ensure no wishes were left unfulfilled. We really felt like part of the family.

Mercedes' son Maikel speaks fluent English and was also incredibly helpful. He not only managed to organise a walking tour for us at very short notice, he also helped us resolve a problem which resulted from a mistake we made with a booking on Cayo Levisa. This was our favourite Casa in Cuba and it come warmly recommended.

How was your room?: The room is large and bright with a private bathroom with shower. There is both air-conditioning and a fan.
How was the food they offer?: The food was lovely and we couldn't finish it. The home-made juices were particularly delicious. Meals were taken indoors, but the dining room opens up directly onto the front patio, so it was like eating outside.
Other services they offer: There are a number of leaflets for various tours and excursions available and these (or other customised tours) can be arranged through the family.

Casa Colonial Mercedes

This was my favorite casa in Cuba! The house is very conveniently located, clean, beautiful, and overall very comfortable. Mercedes and her son, Mikhail, were superb hosts. They made us feel very welcome from the beginning and went above and beyond to make sure that we had a good time. Mercedes was the best cook that I experienced in Cuba - she spoiled us with a ton of amazing food. Not only is Mikhail fluent in English, but he works in the tourism industry and can easily set up tours. I highly recommend staying here if you're in Vinales!

Casa Colonial Mercedes is the best place we stayed during our holidays in Cuba. We stayed there for three night, and were very pleased by the hospitality, great food and friendliness. Mercedes serves the best food we had in Cuba, at the most reasonable price! We could order any combination of breakfast or dinner from a menu, and we always had more than enough food. In comparison to Havana we here got so much fresh fruit and vegetables at the best quality, which was very delicious! The rooms are nice, a bedroom and bathroom with lock on the door, and a living room for the use of us only, as well. We had a private entrance, but as the family was home much of the time there was not much need to use it. Mikael is the son of the house and speaks both french, english and german very very well. He works for one of the turist-tour-booking agencies and helped us book all the trips we wanted to go on, even on a sunday! We recommend everyone visiting Cuba to go to Viales, and to stay with Mercedes and Mikael. Here you will get the best hosts you can imagine."

Fantastic location. Informative and helpful hosts. Great food. I had a health problem and they were so helpful. Anything you need to organise or visit ask Maikel - he is the man and speaks fluent english. They are a genuine warm hearted generous family. Nothing is too much trouble. Enjoy a leisurely 3 hour hike in the valley then relax on the veranda and watch the world go by. Totally fascinating. Mercedes met us off the bus then phoned ahead for our next casa when we were leaving. Would love to go back. Maybe some day..........

Casa Colonial Mercedes

This is the perfect place to stay in Vinales, great food, the most friendly people and a great location near every thing.
We have stayed a other Casa's in Cuba but no other place did we meet this kind of hospitality.
We felt like a part of the family and stayed for more days than first planned.
Always helpfull booking tours, transport and whatever you need as a tourist in Cuba.
So best regards from Denmark to Maikel, Mercedes, the Lady in pink and rest of the family. Hope to come back some day soon.

Casa Colonial Mercedes
 
We spent three days in Vinales at the Casa Colonial. People are really nice : they give very good advices of the best places around Vinales and the food is the best experience we had in Cuba (main courses, fruit juices, breakfast). The room is clean and we have a private access to the garden, really nice to relax. We fully recommend this place for a stop in Vinales.

I found the food was excellent and always preferred eating inside , the hosts were very kind and welcoming and the house is very clean. i did not go to any of the tours, and we preferred taking our own moped around to see the sights. much better!

Casa Colonial Mercedes

First I would say Vinales is a perfect representation of Cuba and the dream of Cuba.

The house is a house. Nothing spectacular. Most importantly it is clean with all of the modern day infrastructure. The food that Mercedes cook is to be exsperienced.

The most important was that I visited Vinales ,casa colonial and I was a stranger .When I left Casa Colonial ? I felt like a Cuban ,as though I had  family in Cuba .There is no place in the world that the people make you feel as though you are home. This is not a rental house !!!!!!!!!!! Casa Colonial is a DESTINATION. It is where personalities ,ambiance ,family and good will is exstended beyond the modern day capacity.

Thank You Maikel, Mercedes and my most favorite Doctor :):):)

Like the other reviewers, we loved Vinales and we loved Casa Colonial for all the same reasons! Mercedes and Maikel could not have been more friendly, charming, attentive and helpful. Their house is lovely with wonderful high ceilings and a great feeling of space in the comfortable sitting room and bedroom, and to relax in the rocking chairs on the front terrace at any time of day or evening is a treat. The house is perfectly located behind the main street of the town and within easy walking distance of the main square and other attractions such as the delightful botanical garden. We stayed for three nights at the beginning of our month in Cuba and liked it so much that we returned there at the end, for the annual town carnival. Returning to Casa Colonial felt like coming back to particularly welcoming and hospitable friends. And everything everybody else says about Mercedes' delicious and ample breakfasts and dinners is absolutely true!

We stayed our last night in Cuba at Casa Colonial. We would have loved to stay longer at this lovely house with the very friendly and helpful Mercedes and her son Maikel. A very clean and comfortable room and bathroom, perfectly situated in Vinales. And the best of all was the food that Mercedes made for us, the best we had in our two weeks in Cuba. We can strongly recommend this Casa Particular.

Stayed here for 4 nights and loved it so much we came back for another 3 days! The rooms and location is excellent and everyone in the house are friendly and professional as can be. Mercedes is the perfect hostess and her son Maikel is our main man in Cuba!!!! He speaks perfect English and hooked us up with everything from horseback riding, walking tours, information and even the coolest parties If it’s on in Vinales, Maikel knows! His magic tricks alone are reason enough for staying! haha
I fully recommend this casa for everyone going to Vinales

Casa Colonial Mercedes

We stayed in this Casa in March 2008, and it was the best one we stayed in in Cuba! Mercedes is a wonderful and friendly hostess, nothing is too much to ask and she will do all she can to make you feel relaxed and at home. Her cooking was amazing, and she fed us so much and so well that we needed a nap just to recover afterwards! She brought us tasty espresso coffees and biscuits to enjoy on the porch as we relaxed, read and watched the world go by.

Her son Maikel works as the PR Manager at the Hotel Ermita in Vinales, and he is also extremely friendly and helpful. He also speaks excellent English and French, and is able to organize walking/bicycle/horse-riding tours and give you any kind of information you might need. He can also arrange for you to use the swimming pool at the Hotel Ermita (4* hotel) which has absolutely stunning views, and is a nice way to cool off after a hard day of hiking through the stunning Cuban countryside. 

The bedroom was very comfortable, absolutely clean, the bathroom too (with hot water 24-hours and a nice shower), and it was all cleaned daily. There was a powerful fan in the room which kept us cool.

Vinales is definitely worth a visit - some of the most stunning landscapes you're ever likely to see and the nicest people you're ever likely to meet. It's a nice break from the city, a lovely way to spend a few days of peace and tranquility, and staying at Casa Mercedes will guarantee you a comfortable and happy stay. You'll most certainly be sorry to leave!
