Sorry it has taken so long to write the review. We stayed at Villa Cristal in January, before the new room was complete. The room we stayed in was at the front of the house and was very nice, the new one looked like it was going to be even nicer. This was our first stay in Cuba and our first stay in a Casa and it set a high standard for the rest of the trip. Francisco and Any were very welcoming hosts and Any a very good cook. We had been warned that food in Cuba was not great, but clearly by people who had not stayed in Casas! It was a pleasure to stay with them. We really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of Vinales and the trip that Francisco arranged for us. It was also nice to be greeted at the bus stop by Francisco as we had arranged the stay through Pototo. Francisco also gave us the details of our next casa in Cienfuegos and helped with the taxi collectivo to get there. If we are in this part of the world again, we would love to come and stay in the new room. |

We had five great days at Villa Cristal. Viñales is a lovely place on earth, with beautiful surroundings. It was really great to get to know Any, Francisco, Bullo, Efrain and Flavia. Any cooked great meals and Francisco was more than helpful booking tours and arrange a mini bus to Maria La Gorda (when the ordinary bus had stopped going). We really recommend you to stay at Villa Cristal if you're going to Viñales, and if you haven't been to Cuba before - it's a lovely place with really friendly people and great atmosphere! |

We are just back from an exhausting trip around half of Cuba, and in retrospect we wish we had spent more time in Vinales with Any and Francisco; this was certainly the best part of our whole trip. The other reviewers have told it like it is, a quaint back street of town, peaceful and friendly.........just be prepared for the roosters at 3 am! But there are roosters everywhere in Cuba!

& Trevor from London UK:
Thank
s! o much for the wonderful time! We have really enjoyed
these 3 days in January with you and highly appreciate the
warm and caring hospitality. Fransisco, Any and family are
wonderful hosts, always there
with friendly advice, assisting with arranging visits and
making us feel welcome by introducing us to their friends
and family. The room and
the bathroom are very nice and clean with a great hot shower.
We had such lovely chilling out times in their beautiful
garden and on the veranda, sitting in rocking chair watching
the sun-set. And we can only agree with everyone else’s
review that Any’s dinners are the best Cuban cooking
we had during our 3-week stay in Cuba!! Thank you so much
again and until our next stay in Viñales.

back from a 9 day stay in Cuba [ 2 days in Havana not so
good] but 7 days with Francisco and Any at Villa Cristal
in Vinales. Wonderful stay, excellent food, beaufiful location.
Most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Hosts were gracious
and well spoken as well as very informative about Cuban
culture and society. We would recommend this casa particular
to anyone wanting a friendly welcome . We found it hard
to leave.

from Austria wrote us: I stayed at Villa Cristal
for some days in January 2005. I really enjoyed it being
among these nice people. They know a lot of things to do
and great places to go in the Valle Vinales. Since they
speak English very well, I had a lot of fun with the whole
family (and also their friends and neighbours). In the evening
we were playing Domino, drinking rum, smoking cigars, listening
to Cuban music, talking about this and that, ... Francisco,
Any and Bullo got to be really nice friends! Thank you for
everything! I'm looking forward to come back someday!!!

Viheke
and Rasmus from Denmark : We have really enjoyed
the stay with you The room and the bathroom are well decorated
and kept very clean.
We have enjoyed and loved every meal that Any have prepared
for us, she is an excellent cook as well and if we did not
finish it all, it was just because we unfortunately could
not eat more.
We highly appreciate your warm and caring hospitality. Always
there with a friendly advise and good jokes. It was very
easy for us to stay with you as you as go open minded and
well spoken in English. This is the first time that we stay
in a Casa Particular and we are certainly not disappointed.
We wish you all the best for the future Viheke and Rasmus

Robinson from Canada: Villa Cristal and the viñales
Valley is a veritable paradise, form the variety of locally
grown food to stunning scenery that is brought together
by the charming hospitality of Francisco and Any. We’ll
come back again. I highly recommend learning the game of
dominoes, it’s a local compulsion and very social
way to get to know the locals.

Per
and Kate from Denmark: Thank so much for a very
very nice stay! We have really enjoyed these 3 days with
you. The bath room is by far the prettiest we have seen
in Cuba. Wish we had one like it at home. And plenty of
hot water, that was nice after 2 days with only cold water
in Havana!
Any´s food is also by far the best food we have had
get in this country, what a pity we couldn’t eat more.
It just tasted so good, the soap (sauce?...), the meet,
the vegetables and the fruit (specially the pineapples and
bananas)
Francisco´s help with arranging the day trip to Cayo
Levisa (the beautiful coral island) and taxi back to Varadero
is also very much appreciated, it was so easy, just ask
him and the next day everything is arranged! And the right
price.
And just to sit in your back yard listening to the roosters,
the pigs, etc. Watching the hamming birds, the chicken,
cats, dogs walk around, or Bullo attending to the house
or feed the pig, while we enjoyed one of many mojitos and
Bucaneros, well what can we say? That has been paradise!!
The home made coffee was like the rest also some of the
best we had.
One evening an official massager came by offering 1 hour
massage for 25CUC. Kate accepted and it was worth every
cent
And of course we enjoyed being able to have long talk with
you in english which you both speak very, very well.
If – or rather when – we come back to Viñales,
we for sure wish to stay with you again!
Regards and best wishes

the rocking chair in front of their house watching life

Myra
and Jeroen Dicker from Holland: We had a lovely
stay at your home. A perfect example of Cuban hospitality!
Because of our Luna de Miel, Anita prepared a lovely romantic
honey moon dinner at the first evening. She also arrange
3 hours horse ride through the valley which can be recommend
to all visitors, also for those who can not ride a horse.
The American/Mexican saddles are easy to hold on to. So
for everyone who can ride a bike, horse back riding become
a piece of cake.
We also visited Cueva del Indio what was really impressive.
Beside all the tourist things the discussions with Anita
and Francisco were fascinating. We’ve read a lot about
Cuba before coming over, but once you talk about the real
Cuban life you will see its totally different from the books.
Thank you very much. We’ve enjoyed the easy going
Cuban way of life every second

to express our stay here, it was wonderful!
Thank you for your friendly welcoming and your hospitality.

Janny
and Jacques Van Beek from Holland: We did not have
any experience with casas particulares. In fact our stay
with Any, Francisco and family was the second one after
in Havana. But the welcome in Viñales was very touching.
We felt just like at home. We only stayed here for 2 whole
days and it was to short to see the whole western part of
Cuba and to know the family better. But whenever we decide
to leave another time for Cuba, we will visit Viñales
again and we can´t resist another stay with Any and
Francisco. Besides we played Dominó with Bullo, a
fame we played in our youth long ago. One saty with Any
and family was very charming, we enjoy the food. Any cooks
very much and hope to see the family in the future again

Esteban
and Tressa from USA : Words to describe our stay
at Villa Cristal with Bullo, Efrain, Anita and Francisco:
easy, relaxed, kind, gracious, informative and lively.
This was our first trip to Cuba and out of Havana. We feel
it so hard to describe the spirit of the people. We found
such friendly, warm and kind people that it was a bit stunning
at first. After a few days, sitting on the porch watching
the many forms of transportations go by; noting all the
waves, hellos and sharing of neighbours and friends, enjoying
the flow of life in this small – Marquez Like- town
of Viñales, added up in some inextricable way of
a warm and easy sense.
Anita´s cooking is wonderful as is her joy in helping
with the simplest things. Francisco really helped us get
a sense of the Cuban way of seeing the political world outside.
And of course his constant concern that all is going well.
Any way we will always be grateful for this family and these
lovely country with such kind people.

Meeting all of you has really added to our Cuban experience
