My review: My wife and I first stayed here in September 2012 for 4 days and were back in April 2013 for one week and in October of this year for 1 week. This last visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday. The casa is in a great location mere steps from the ocean. There is always a great breeze on the front porch which is shaded so you can spend hours without feeling too hot. My wife and I used to stay in resorts but were always disappointed with the food. Not so in casa particulares and definitely not in this casa. Maria and Laura will make you breakfast, lunch and dinner as you please. The food is excellent. Breakfast is around $4.00 each and dinner ranges from $6.00 to $10.00 for a full lobster diner served in the back yard which is set up as a very private outdoor restaurant with thatch roof. The house is very very clean and your room will be cleaned every day if you so desire. There are also a number of restaurants in town if you want to go out. Some things to do in town include bars and clubs, restaurants, a museum and sight seeing. There are some beautiful buildings etc. There are 4 beaches in Gibara. They are not the greatest compared to some of the resort beaches but not to bad at all. There are also caverns you can visit with a guide for next to nothing or you can take a taxi to Caletones and visit a few different natural quarries with cold water. We visited la posa fria but there are other ones such as tanke azule etc. There is also a good restaurant in Caletones. Maria and Laura will help you organize anything you desire. You want a Mojito...they will make you that as well. You need a doctor...no problem. For my wife's birthday they decorated the terrace, roasted a pig, ordered some hors d'euvres from Holguin, made rice and beans etc. They organised to have a musical duo come in and sing and play guitar etc. I can't say enough about this place. If you're tired of the resort scene or just want to have a different vacation try this place. You can also mingle with the locals. You want to go fishing just go across the street. This time I went shrimping...what an adventure. Here you can mingle with the Cubans. The house was just sold while we were their and it so happens we had met the new owner at another casa in Holguin in 2012. She is already making plans to improve certain things so I'm sure it will only get better.

Casa Hostal Las Brisas
My review: This was a fantastic casa! We were sorry to only stay for one night! It is situated with a wonderful view of the ocean right out the front door. The owner was very kind, and made us feel right at home. Gibara is a nice little town to walk about in. The room was huge, as was the bathroom. The food was fantastic! I have only great things to say about Casa Las Brisas!
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Roomy, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Garden, Pets in the house, Patio
Amenities: Parking service, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with tub, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was great. It was a very big room and a huge bathroom. We slept wonderfully to the sound of the ocean, and viewed a fantastic sunrise in the morning while we laid in bed.
How was the food they offer?: The food was wonderful! And big portions. There was a lot of variety, and they were keen to offer various drinks, and desert.
Other services they offer: Laundry service was offered, but we did not need it. We were able to leave our car parked on the street in front of the casa. It is a very safe town.
Other comments: I highly recommend getting out to the coast, away from the bigger cities and staying in this fantastic casa. It is beautifully decorated with hand-painted murals and details. Honestly, the beauty of this place blew us away!

Hostal Las Brisas
My review: My wife and I had our wedding on the terrace in October, 2011.
This is a beautiful casa situated on the quiet edge of this charming and sleepy little fishing village. This is the real Cuba. The accommodations are first rate. The food is excellent. The staff is super friendly and both Yvan and Arnel can give a lot of ideas about things to do and places to visit. Highly recommended if you are a seafood lover. Fresh fish available everyday.
Yvan and the staff helped us plan and organize the whole wedding and it turned out to be absolutely dreamy. We will be going back for a visit again really soon. Probably for our anniversary.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house, Patio

Review
Wow. Be prepared to be blown away by this incredibly beautiful colonial house directly facing the sea, complete with an incredible second-floor view of the sea, and a large back patio with murals, arbours and plants. The hosts are gay-friendly; everyone is welcome (we are a straight couple) and treated with the utmost care and hospitality. This is better than most hotels on the island, and cheaper by far.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Hidden gem, Roomy, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: TV, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was large, two double beds, high ceilings with a window to let in the fresh sea breeze (and air conditioning, though we didn't use it). The bathroom was roomy, lots of really hot water, new fixtures throughout.
How was the food they offer?: We ate like kings. The food is gourmet cooking the likes of which we've never seen before on the island (and we've been all over it). These people know how to cook fine Cuban fusion cuisine. |
