Casa Ivette Flores Campoy y Alejandro Devarona
My review: Ivette and Alejandro have 2 houses next door to each other, one with 5 rooms and the other with 3. My room was the front room in the house with 3 rooms, and I had my own bathroom and the most comfortable bed I slept in during my trip to Cuba! Ivette, Alejandro, their daughter and their dad, as well as Mirella, the housekeeper were amazingly helpful. Ivette showed me the best route to walk to old Havana, where most of the sites are. They were also very helpful with recommendations of where to go out in the evening.
I was traveling on my own, and they made sure to introduce me to the other solo travelers in the Casa, who I ended up hanging out with during the rest of my stay.
Casa specifics: English speaking, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Roomy, Safe
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Because I added more time to my stay, I ended up staying in two rooms. The first was in the new house (not actually the purple house, but next door). It was the best bed I slept in in Cuba. I had my own bathroom with a shower. It was pretty ideal.
The 2nd room did not have a private bathroom but was shared, down the hall. I had 2 beds in the room and my own fridge.
Neither room had windows, but this isn't really a big deal. I had access to the common rooms when I wanted to sit on the balcony.
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast was plentiful with fruit, bread, a fried egg, coffee and juice.
I opted to stay in and eat dinner most nights as well. It was quite pleasant home cooking. They can accommodate most diet requirements too. Another Casa guest during my stay was Jewish and they were able to make sure he could keep kosher-ish. I ate fried shrimp, beef stews, lobster and chicken. Dinners were very filling and often I could not finish my plate. Then there was dessert!
Other services they offer: Mirella will do a load of laundry for you. Alejandro can help you purchase quality cigars.

Casa Ivette y Alejandro
My review: Come as guests, leave as family!
Ivette and Alejandro have a charming and comfortable casa. The casa is spotless and well kept, with a large common sitting room and dining room, flanked on one wall with with floor to ceiling doors which open up onto a small balcony. We spent many mornings and evenings lingering around the table, chatting to other guests and the family.
The family does not live in the house, but are around during the day and evening. This is the best of both worlds - you get to spend time with the family, but still have your privacy, your own space, and never feel like you are intruding. Ivette and Alejandro (and Damila and Estella) are very accomodating hosts who truly cared about the wellbeing of their guests and go the extra mile to take care of all of our needs.
The casa is very secure - all rooms are at the back of the house, accessed by a locked door. Each room also has a lockable door, which only you have the key to.
The casa is a short and enjoyable 5-10 minute walk to the centre which gives you a taste of local life - Ivette will teach you the route! The casa is also 2 blocks away from Av de Italia, where the Casa de la Musica, stores, currency exchange, and travel/bus agents can be found.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Hidden gem, Charming, Beautiful, Safe
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was recently renovated had a comfortable new queen bed, adequate storage for all of our belongings, a window, fridge, and air conditioner. Again, very clean. Ceiling is a bit low, but this wasn't a problem. The washroom was spotless and well plumbed. The shower was amazing - hot water on demand and lots of pressure.
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast was fantastic and filling. Each morning we sat down to fresh juice (guava at the time), delicious cuban coffee, and a large plate of cut fruit - watermelon, guava, pineapple. This was followed with a fried egg, salad, and the most fantastic yellow crusty buns - still warm!
As vegetarians, we were worried about eating in Cuba. You do have to be clear on what you can and cannot eat, but after that there are no problems - we were very well fed with delicious food. We had abundant salads, bean and vegetable soups, fried plantains, rice, juices, a variety of local root vegetables, ice cream, cupcakes - all for about the price of an appetizer in Havana Vieja.
Other services they offer: Laundry service was fast and reasonably priced.

Casa Ivette y Alejandro
We had an amazing time at this casa, the owners are really friendly & caring. They know English, they are always willing to help you. Rooms were clean, some rooms do not have window - this can be a problem but not that much. Breakfast is well prepared, house-maid is really helpful. Location is good, easy to walk around & safe. House owner organize a city tour at the first day of your holiday, and she tells you what to do & what not to do! She is really like a mother.
