How did you make the reservation for this casa particular?: The casa directly
How much did you pay per night?: $35 a night plus $5.00 for breakfast
DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY HERE!!!!!! So many things went wrong when our group stayed here. Stairs are unsafe to climb up and down, especially when it's raining. We booked 8 rooms with two or one bed in each of the rooms. They tried to put 3-5 people in several of their rooms. We had to get an additional room at another casa and then at the end of the stay, they still charged us for an additional room where three people shared, one of which slept in a bed with a room the size of a small closet, which they considered a separate room. Many of the bathroom showers had little to no water pressure. One shower had the sink in the shower with an electrical outlet above....Very dangerous! Breakfast was never served at the time promised. VERY DISHONEST PEOPLE...DO NOT STAY HERE!

My review: Review in EN / FR / ES
We stayed 3 nigths in Miguel and Ana, B&B (casa particular) and I recommend to anyone to not stay there. There people are dishonest and do not deserve to host travellers.
On the morning we left the house, Ana came with a huge bill, the rate of the room had changed from 30CUC per night to 35CUC. She tried to make me doubt that I misunderstood the phone call we had in Spanish and that it was the normal rate for a house in old Havana district. So I knock at the door of the room next to mine, in their own house. And the couple there was paying 30CUC the night !
We wanted to pay the bill in euros, cause we didn’t have any convertible pesos left. Ana stated that she just had a call with an hotel and that the rate was 1.08. Althought we checked it later on the same day at 1.18 in an official Cuban change office (CADECA) So they charged us 10% more than the usual rate.
We requested a taxi to leave the house to a place 4 km away from their house. Miguel offered to drop up of with its own car and he charged us 10CUC for the ride, although a fair taxi would have been half of this price.
The meals at 15CUC are out of price, when you can eat in the street for 1CUC. Plus this is always the same rice, beans, tomatoe and pork every single diner, and not even a dessert or a fruit. They provided on request bottles of water but the plug seal was actually gone, I am sure they refill the bottles with tap water and they charge you 1.5 CUC the bottle !
There are tens of nice houses in old Havana, DON’T GO THERE !

My review: By no means should you stay in these people´s casa particular!!!!!! Miguel had 30$ to return to me for a night that I did not stay there and after two days of constantly asking him about the money, he said he would give it back. However, the night before I was due to fly out, he said that he didn't have the money but to call my Cuban friend and she would pick it up for me. I flew out early that morning and that evening she was to collect the money. HIS SOLUTION to the problem. But when she called to collect the money, he said that he didn't owe me anything. That, I participated in a Dec 24th dinner (that he paid nothing for nor did any of the cooking) and that that was the end of that.
WHAT HORRIBLE PEOPLE. I've been travellling for years and I've never experienced anything like this. These people really are a piece of work.
How was your room?: Plain
How was the food they offer?: Decent
Other services they offer: Over-priced friend who drove a taxi

MIGUEL AND ANA DORIS
My review: We traveled with 2 small kids in May 2012 and stayed there for 5 days.
What we liked:
Nice but simple room, nice bathroom, clean, safe box.
Breakfast good enough, water for kids for free. :O) Nice patio with a parrot called Paco who likes kids, lots of fun with him. Place is safe for kids. Area is great and authentic, and we felt safe in the streets of old havana at all times of day and night. No dinner.
What we did not like:
I made my reservation through CubaJunky and showed my printout rezservation at the entrance. At the end Doris almost in tears told me that it is a mistake and we should pay twice the price agreed in the reservation because we were 4 (with kids)and not 2. We showed her the details of reservation where the price was 30 CUC per 2 adults and 2 kids, she agreed but we felt she tried to cheat us.
Second thing is that we used the safebox during our stay but just before leaving made a stupid mistake and left the bags in the hall and went for the last walk in Havana. We were out for 30 minutes, but when we got back our camara was gone from one of our backpacks. The door is closed all the time in this casa so the thief must have been from inside the house.
I still recommend this casa, just be careful with your staf.

Casa Colonial Miguel y Ana Doris
My review: When we have been in this casa Miguel and his wife were in holiday, but Miriam, the sister of Miguel, is very available for every our need.
The rooms have shower and air conditioner all.The cleansing is optimal.
We stayed here 6 days at the beginning of our travel and 3 days before the departure.
The breakfast is rich and varied, good for all the kind of taste, especially if you like fruits.
When, after a long trip until Santiago, our flight was 7 h. in late !, Miriam waited us till 4 a.m. for open the door...
Habana vieja is very poor but we had not problems to any hour of the night. The people are very available and when somebody ask money are not insistent and however smile.
We think, if you want to taste the really soul of Habana, this is a good place to stay.

Casa Colonial Miguel y Ana Doris
My review: Very friendly couple, and most accomodating. We missed our first night because of flight problems, and Miguel and Ana Doris were very forgiving. Their house is charming and quirky, with a wonderful central patio and eating space (good breakfast). Our upstairs room was basic and clean, with a refrigerator and access to a private roof area. The bathroom lacked a toilet seat, which unfortuanely is quite common in Havana. The house is very child-friendly; there was a Norwegian couple with two small children staying downstairs, and they were treated like family by Ana Doris. Good, though slightly-removed-from-the-action southern area of Havana Vieja, with close access to the Plaza Vieja. I would recommend this casa for families especially.
