Casa 1932
My review: I was so glad we trusted Luis. He did move us around to other casa's but they were all very good. Well appointed with AC very clean, great food, great hosts and english speakers to help our shattered attempts at communicating in Spanish. One place was in a different area and gave us the opportunity to be closer to some amazing jazz clubs and a different atmosphere. We spent from the 12th to the 22nd. in Luis's hands and we were very very happy we made our booking and trusted him. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels that I've had problems with so I was concerned with this style of travel but I would book with Luis in a heartbeat. Now we have a contact in Cuba that we can trust to see us through our next visit there. Many many thanks to Luis and all his extended family for making our h! oliday a great experience.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Hidden gem, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Internet, TV, Safety box, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: All three accommodations were different but the y all had AC and the beds were clean and comfortable. Luis's place had security an ensuite and a nice courtyard where you could have a great espresso or beer or cup of tea and chat with other travellers. They also had great food.
The place around the corner was a whole apartment, for us it was the BEST to have the room for all our big luggage and seeing as we were the whole time in Havana and not leaving as many people do for trips elsewhere in Cuba this was excellent for us.
Then the other accommodation was different again with a large bedroom AC an ensuite and Great food.
They were all very clean and quiet at night. very important for the weary traveller.
How was the food they offer?: The food was great in all the places.
Other services they offer: We did get some messages sent to Luis on his e-mail which he promptly contacted us about. It was very convenient and reassuring.
He also tipped us to the street hustlers and the sights, the taxis, the clubs, where to find the best Rum, Cigars and Coffee etc. Luis speaks very good english so we could ask him anything.
Other comments: I have travelled the world and this type of accommodation was new to me. I wouldn't hesitate to trust in Luis again. The last thing I want on a holiday is to be stressed. And we weren't at all.
Mucho Mucho Gracias Luis.

Casa Luis Miguel
The casa was fantastic, my wife was sick and they were helpful and respectful. Fantastic food some of the best we had in Cuba.
To understand the overbooking one must understand how casa's in Cuba work. From our understanding casa owners pay a hefty flat tax per month no matter if their rooms are rented 1 night or the entire month. They can't take a chance on no shows (it happens often when people are tricked and "guided" to different casas and telling them it is casa "insert name here - it happens). You must understand that one nights stay can equal the average months wage so tricksters abound. Legit casa's get the bad end of the deal as they pay taxes, staff and themselves.
A no show is a serious problem, to prevent this they can double book, knowing full well if they need to they can send you to other legit casas. It is a win-win for them. To the visitor it may feel like a scam, but it is survival to them. The worst that can happen is that you go to another great, clean casa with wonderful hosts.
Casa style: Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfertable, Colonial, Charming, Safe
Amenities: In room safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom,
How was your room?: Room was comfortable and clean.
How was the food the offer?: Fantastic

Casa Luis Miguel
Casa Luis Miguel is great and Luis and his family are good hosts. The food in particular was amazing and I would love the recipes for his chef's bean soups!! I was impressed with the free 'safe' water provided by Luis, especially when my friend was sick and I needed to get several refills.
We stayed for 3 nights then headed off to Trinidad and were coming back to Havana to stay with Luis again for 1 night. Luis advised before we left for Trinidad that we may have to stay somewhere else when we got back as he had a booking that was for more than one night and he needed to do what was best for him. When we got back we were indeed moved one block away. The new casa wasn't in the same league however the owners were friendly.
Casa style: Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfertable,
Amenities: In room safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom,
How was your room?: Room had everything we needed, including a safety box
How was the food the offer?: Fantastic!

Casa Luis Miguel
Luis' casa is fantastic. However, we were the victim of his scam that has been reported by others. Luis overbooks and then makes up a story about their being a problem with the electricity or water and sends you to another casa, presumably while taking a cut himself. He is very nice, but slick. My recommendation is to not use this casa unless you go without a reservation and immediately occupy the nice room he shows you.

Andrew did not make his reservation through the Cuba-Junky website but directly or through another agency.
Guests who book through the Cuba-Junky website can be 100% sure they will stay at Luis Miguel's house.

After reading the reviews of Casa Luis Miguel I was somewhat reluctant to book it because of the somewhat frequent booking mis-management. We were booked for 4 nights and on the 3rd day, Luis told us that there was a problem with the electricity and that he will move us to his friend's casa a couple of blocks away for the last night because there will be people coming in to look at the electricity in the room we are staying in.
His friend's Casa was somewhat of a different quality. Needless to say we hardly slept that night bevause of the bed, the room and the noise from the street. The only saving grace is that Luis' friend and his wife were much nicer than Luis and were happy to accommodate us.
I sense that people are attracted by the photos of the casa which, in fairness are a close resemblance to reality, but not that close. So I think Luis gets a lot of requests to stay and then passes some of the bookings to other casas to accommodate longer bookings for himself because I cant see how you can make so many mistakes with bookings.
Casa style: Quiet, Colonial
How was your room?: Room was fine.
How was the food the offer?: Food wasnt great but it was marginally better than the rest of the food in Havana which is really not great at all.

A great place to stay. We loved our 3 nights here. Luis speaks brilliant English and was incredibly hospitable and helpful. Wonderful food and 2 large rooms with en-suite opening off the terrace. Great location only a few mins walk from the Malecon and 10 mins from Old Havana (Vieja). Beautifully furnished with antique furniture.
