Casa Rafael y Adis

Rafael y Adis...what wonderful hosts! Rafael and Adis' son met us at the airport to bring us to their house and their daughter spoke very good English which was very helpful. Their house is located in the centre of Baracoa. The room is very clean, with air conditioning and has a terrace overhead with a great view of the surrounding countryside, sea and town. Breakfast was plentiful and the hot chocolate was so tasty! The highlight of our stay was Adis' amazing local coconut dish and chocolate ice-cream!... Our favourite Casa in Cuba!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Safe
Amenities: Airconditioning, Balcony, Breakfast service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: En-suite private room above the family living quarters. Double bed and single bed with plenty of room for your bags. Cleaned every day.
How was the food they offer?: Amazing food! Adis is a great cook.
Other services they offer: Rafael and Adis' daughter speaks good English so she can help you with any queries you might have about the location etc.
Other comments: Stay at this Casa...you'll be glad you did!

Casa Rafael y Adis

My husband and I backpacked throughout Cuba for a month this spring, staying in casa particulares in almost every province. One of the finest casas we stayed in was the Casa Gallardo, in Baracoa. Our hosts, Rafael and Adis Gallardo, who are teachers, were hospitable and accommodating. Our room, comprising the entire 2nd floor of the family home, was immaculate, bright and airy, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower in the attached bathroom delivered lots of hot water--the latter is definitely not a given in Cuba! We also had exclusive use of a terrace on the top floor of the casa, which overlooked the rooftops of Central Baracoa and the Atlantic Ocean, just a few blocks away.
The food was delicious and plentiful, and included local seasonal fruits, vegetables and seafood. We quickly became addicted to the freshly made hot chocolate served every morning along with the fresh rolls and plates of fresh tropical fruit. For affordability (food and accommodation totalled $45-50 CDN per day for 2 of us), excellent food, clean and comfortable sleeping quarters, and wonderful hosts, we highly recommend the Casa Gallardo to anyone traveling to Baracoa. You won't be disappointed.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Roomy, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Spacious, immaculate, airy
How was the food they offer?: Perfectly prepared, plentiful, freshest local ingredients
Other services they offer: A balcony overlooking central Baracoa and the ocean
Other comments: We strongly recommend Casa Rafael y Adis, in Baracoa. In terms of overall value-- hosts, location, food, accommodation and travel experience, this was one of the best casas we stayed in in Cuba and it would be shame for other travellers to not know about it.

We stayed in Casa Rafael in April 2010 for 3 nights. Our stay there was wonderful.
The house is located in the centre of town and it is easy to find and move around both on foot or by car. If going by car there is a parking space in the house on the opposite side of the street where you can leave your car.

Casa style: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfertable, Cozy, Romantic, Charming, Beautiful, Safe
Amenities: Parking service, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony,
How was your room?: The room is on the first floor. It is big, quiet with lots of light coming from the many windows and very clean. It has a double and a single bed,air conditioning, 2 rockers, a place for the luggage/shoes, hangers,a big mirror, 2 bedside tables with small lamps. There is a toilet in the room with shower (hot water at all times).
There are 2 rockers in the porch where you can relax in the shade or if you prefer you can go to the roof terrace where there are 2 rockers as well and there you can enjoy the sun and the beautiful views of Baracoa.
How was the food the offer?: Food is amazing. Breakfast was something not to be missed : eggs, fruit, juice, bread, butter, guava jam, coffee and Baracoa's hot chocolate (the best cocoa in the world!). For dinner we had fish in coconut milk, lobster and shrimps in tomato sauce ... every meal comes with soup, salad, rice and dessert, all delicious! They also serve drinks.
Quality/price value is excellent. The room is 20CUC per night, breakfast is 3CUC and meals are 7CUC. Unbeatable!
Other services they offer: Rafael and his family will give you advice on what to visit on the area. They can also organise excursions and book trips for you as well as rent bicycles and offer Spanish and salsa lessons.
English spoken and if you enjoy reading there is a large bookcase full of interesting books in different languages.
If you like chatting then do not hesitate to start a conversation with Rafael, he is lovely!
Other comments: I bet you would not find a better place to stay. Rafael and his family are so hospitable they made us feel at home.

Casa Rafael y Adis

This casa is located in the center of Baracoa, you can walk to the beach and to the cathedral.
There is one big room, with AC and private bathroom (wc, shower, hot water), and a huge terrace with a wonderful view.
I think this place is worth to go to because of this view, of the meals Adis cooks (fish 'a la ranchera' : with coco), and the way she, Rafael and their daughter take care of the people they recieve.
Besides, Adis is and english teacher, which can be very helpful for people who don't speak spanish very well.
