Reviews Scuba Diving Havana
Name: David J Stober
Country: Canada
Marlin Dive Centre at Marina Tarara
Tarará, Ciudad De La Habana, Cuba
Best dive centre I`ve been to in Cuba so far. Close to Hotel Club Atlantico and Tropicoco (5 minute taxi ride) and no walking with your tanks into the water required. You can leave your equipment at the Dive centre between trips and it will be on the boat and ready to go the next morning. The rental equipment is in good shape but the BCs are not weight integrated so you`ll have to wear a belt. Unlike diving from the Atlantico`s beach, you will be asked for your certification and required to sign a waiver. Carlos, the Dive Master was competent and attentive. He also resolved equipment issues with my personal gear so extra kudos for that!
The dive sites were colorful and there was lots of sea-life. Sunny days were the best as the coral and fish appeared bright and vibrant. The crew was great at helping me in and out of the boat, setting up my gear and carrying it to and from the dive centre; They really earned their tips.
A 2-tank trip was 70 cuc and there wasn`t a discount for my six dives. If you`re the only diver then it`s a 2-tank minimum. The wait for a taxi might be long because the drivers are more interested in trips to Havana. It's not a bad idea to have the front desk call an hour before the boat departure time just in case. The boss of the dive centre actually picked me up at the hotel in his own car so the boat could leave on time. I was very impressed by this degree of service. I hope this review is helpful and feel free to ask me about anything I didn't mention.
