Review
I can highly reccomend this casa particular. It's really just in the centre of Santa Clara, the land lord is really friendly and funny. There are two rooms, the one we got was really big, with one double bed, air con, fan, shower with...REALLY HOT WATER! It was great to have a proper shower after two weeks of tepid water. There is also nice big living room with a balcony and really nice terrace. If Santa Clara is on your itinerary don't look for any other accomodation :)

Hostal de Olga y Zayda

entre Maximo Gomez y Callejon Carmen.
Santa Clara
This is a Casa Particular on Plaza Carmen, a short walk from the center of town in Santa Clara. Clean, comfortable rooms, very big breakfasts and best of all, the help and information provided by Olga. This is your home away from home. So glad we chose to stay here.

After searching for a casa for quite a while, Antonio came to get me and showed me his beautiful home. Of the 2 rooms available, my husband and I stayed in the rooftop room up a very long spiral staircase. There is a rope-pulley system for getting your luggage up, but once you're up, there are beautiful views and absolute privacy. The central location is a 2 minute walk to Parque Vidal, 5 min from the Train, and seconds from Boulevard. Antonio's wife cooked us a delicious chickpea soup, grilled shrimp, rice, fried bananas, and cooked vegetables (broccoli and eggplant! wow!) for dinner, mixing great Pina Coladas and serving coffee. She took great pride in her presentation, similar to a good paladar-style meal. The main home has nice colonial furniture and another room for rent ! with 2 beds. Antonio talked with us for hours after dinner - so welcome on our last night in the country to finally have all our questions answered! He made our last night in Cuba so special. He arranged a car to take us to the airport and offered to show us a special walk up to a hill with a view of the city. It was quite cold in Santa Clara when we arrived, so he offered us each a small glass of aged rum to "warm us up"! A

Amenities: TV, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: My room was terrific. It was bright, spacious with a very high ceiling. l had my own fridge in which there was a mini-bar. My private bathroom was clean and the shower was great.
How was the food they offer?: Yummy. The table was well set, the food was delicious, well presented and generous portions. The service was friendly and curteous. Terrific coffee.
Other services they offer: You can be picked up at the bus station by their son-in-law Duniel in a horse driven wood buggy. About a 15 minute trip. Duniel is very nice, reliable and l felt safe with him. Marta is a jewel, l almost felt she were my sister. She is , kind, warm and cultivated. She helped me with my spanish and we had nice long chats.
Other comments: This is like a place away from home. Oh yes if you need something or want to visit you can depend on Duniel.
Also feel comfortable with asking the costs of meals. |
