Hostal Fernando y Mayan
My review: My time at Fernando's and Mayan's was undoubtedly the highlight of my trip. They welcomed me into their family and that enabled me to learn so much more about Cuban culture.
Mayan is the loveliest woman. She is hilarious; I loved coming home, tired after a day of sight-seeing, to sit on the balcony and drink coffee with her. On top of making an excellent coffee, her food is delicious! On one day I took a trip to Playa d'Anchon and bought fresh lobsters from the fisherman in the sea, I brought them back and she made the best meal I had in Cuba.
What's more is their house is in the perfect location. It's a beautiful house 5 minutes walk from the old town.
I couldn't recommend this casa more highly, because not only is the price good, but money cannot pay for the kindness you receive in this household; Mayan and Fernando are lovely people.
Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: My room was very comfortable. It was big and could fit up to four people if you wanted in there. The air-conditioning worked properly, which not the case in many other casas I stayed in and the shower was powerful too. I had access to two balconies: one at the front of the house facing the street and other was shared with another room and looked over the roof tops of Trinidad.
How was the food they offer?: The food was delicious. Mayan prides herself on her cooking and can cook both fish and meat really well. She'll always go to the market and get her fish fresh.
Breakfast was always something to look forward in the mornings. She gives a hearty breakfast with lots of different options. Cuban coffee is the best you'll find in the world.

Casa Hostal Fernando y Mayan
Mayan is a fantastic friendly host and her casa was one of the highlights of our trip to Trinidad. It was comfortable and welcoming and the food provided was out of this world - we didnt eat anywhere else. Mayan helped us with advice on what to do and see in Trinidad and the surrounding areas including beaches, horse riding and romantic boat journeys. Her contacts in Trinidad made our visit a beautiful and relaxing one, so much so we extended our booking by a further 4 nights.
During our visit to Cuba we visited and stayed at other Casas and this was by far the best. Mayan's English and understanding of tourists seeking to experience the real Cuba is what made our stay one the best experiences.
Her cooking was fantastic and we really enjoyed Cuban dishes made with feeling and care. The hostal is lovely and the roof terrace was a great bonus for relaxing in the late afternoon sun, after a day of sightseeing and exploring - with a beer and can of malta of course.
If you are visiting Trinidad, this is a great place to stay, a 5-10 minute walk from Playa Mayor and the fantatsic Casa de la Musica and Ayla (the music venue in the amazing cave!!!) Mayan understands customer service which is lacking in Cuba and knows how to make her guests feel special and her energy and passion for Cuba is infectious.

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Garden, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Perfect - double bed with side lamps, tv, wardrobe, hot shower, mirrors and clean bedding and towels. A wonderful casa. In our Dining room, our own fridge - stocked with water, beer and wine and our own private terrace to sun-bath in and watch locals go by and people watch - wonderful.
How was the food they offer?: Better then many of the restaurants we visited in Cuba. Mayan is a top class cook and her breakfasts were lovely with platters of fresh fruit and seasoned omelettes. Her dinners were AMAZING! Black bean soup to start followed by tasty fish with rice and a sauce and a lovely flan to finish. We wondered if she was a chef in a former life.
Other services they offer: Knowledge and advice on what to do to make the most of our stay, contacts (horse riding in the mountains was the highlight of our entire holiday) and friendship. Cubans are wonderful people and we felt honoured to become friends of Mayan and Fernando and Fifi the dog.
Other comments: A wonderful place to stay, made so special by the hosts.

Both rooms they rent are with 2 big beds each, each rooms has their own new bathroom with the shower (and really hot water not the old stile white plastic heater that i saw in each one of the rooms before that), their own terrace, and then the roof terace is for both. Mayan and Fernando are really the nice Cuban people, honest and good, not like some other familys I've met over there just wanting to get as much money from you as possible.
Two of them (and Fifi the dog ;)) live on the ground floor so you can feel like you are completely alone up there.
I was amazed when i saw the fridge and tv in each room-that i haven't seen anywhere before that in Cuba! Really, couldn't leave this place!:DDD
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Roomy, Romantic, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Queensize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Huge room with two big beds, private bathroom completely renovated,tv,AC,fridge in dining room just for that room, and 2 exits on 2 different teracces.I used the front one having breakfast there every day and went sun tanning on the roof terace. Everything is colorfull, looks like just builded now,and you can see the hole Trinidad from that roof terace!!
How was the food they offer?: I just had brakfast there cause wanted to try Paladars at night, but the way Mayan prepares even just that avocado salad I'm sure I would have enjoyed the dinners too!
Other services they offer: Mayan is the gem of that place,38 years old but so chearfull and happy-like a little girl. You can't feel unwelcome when you hear that laugh!:D She can speak english, she's even trying to put english word every now and then in our normal spanish conversation ;)
Talked to her husband Fernando a lot (in spanish) and he is really smart, lived and worked as arhitect in Havana for 17 years and then moved to Trinidad and renovated his parents house. He can advice you about every single museum or what to see in and around Trinidad ;)
Other comments: I changed 2 casas particulares cause they eather didn't have any hot water or the toilet wasn't working,or just the people were strange and made you feel almost unwelcomed there(if it weren't for money they they are taking out of you). When I find theese place just walking down the street in a search for Casa de Jorge Mendez y Neisy(from your reviews, just the corner away), I just couldn't believe that this place exist in such a small town of Trinidad, where all the rooms are usually small,on ground, without windows even...Honestly,I stayed 3 days longer there just feeling I can't leave that place!!!
