Casa El Holandes

My review: We were already tipped for this casa by friends and we found out that it was even better! From the beginning till we left, we had a very great time. Not only because Herman, Yolanda and their family did everything to make us feel comfortable and at home, but also because the city and the nature around Trinidad were impressive! Although Herman told us a lot about Cuba and it's society, we are still puzzled..... Cuba is beautiful, fascinating and intruiging and to stay a few days with Herman, Yolanda and their family makes you feel like you're a part of it. Even daily Trinidad life comes to you:-) I will only mention 'eeeee pan' and the rest you have to find out yourselves! So, if you want to enjoy Cuban life and food, stay at Casa el Holandes!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Elegant, Comfortable, Cozy, Patio
Amenities: Private bathroom, Minibar, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was big enough, clean, had airconditioning and the bed was o.k.
How was the food they offer?: Splendid!
Other services they offer: The horse riding tour through the valley is really great. Also the trip with the old chevy throughout the countryside.

Casa El Holandes

My review: Have been on holiday in Cuba. There we have slept in Casas via Cuba-Junky we arrived at Casa El Holandes , in Santiago de Trinidad. The name says it already owned by a Dutchman married to a Cuban Lady . You can rent a double room with air conditioning! For 25 CUC per night Very clean and well looked after, we were welcomed with open arms and even included in the family. The food was superb, both breakfast and dinner! The care was in one word: Perfect . Herman and Jolanda do everything to make you feel at home. Herman is aware of all activities in the area and can assist you with the planning / arranging of your holiday. Through him we have scuba dived (25 CUC per person per hour it was our first dive!) And everyone had a personal attendant with him/her , so the kids were in good hands! We also went horse riding in the area, and deliciously mid dived and swam in a waterfall, wonderfully refreshing! From Trinidad we went to Cienfuegos where we swam with dolphins for 50 CUC pp half an hour. It is in the dolphinarium of Cienfuegos.

How was your room?: The room was comfortable and had air conditioning. We had a private bathroom and shower!
How was the food they offer?: Food was delicious. The girls cook very well and look after you nicely, the strawberry ice cream was amazing!
Other services they offer: We did the horse riding tour through the valley Los ingenios with yudel, who was very attentive and looked after me well considering Minot very experienced with horse riding! Casa El Holandes

My review: We stayed at Casa El Holandes for 4 nights, but could have stayed longer. The casa its self is lovely nad we were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived by Caridad, who was truly a perfect host. We arrived late at night and were offered a drink to settle us in. The casa's location is great, just down from one of the main squares and a 5 minute walk to the main tourist area. Trinidad is a magical place and has so much to offer, staying at the casa was the perfect way to really be in touch with the real Cuban life and people. We truly loved our stay.

Casa specifics: English speaking, Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Charming, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was simple, clean and comfortable. We had a front facing room so there was a little noise from the street, but nothing to complain about. The windows let in the light and the shutters worked when you want some privacy. There was air conditioning, which kept us nice and cool while we were in the room. The bathroom was again simple and clean and the shower had hot water all the time. Our room also had its own little outside area with a small balcony to look out onto the street and a table to sit and have breakfast, which was a lovely thing every morning just sitting and listening/watching the hustle and bustle of Trinidad waking up.
How was the food they offer?: The food was great, every morning we woke to a lovely breakfast of eggs (how ever you like them), bread, fruit, tea/coffee and freshly made fruit juice. It was delicious and set us for a day of sightseeing and activities.
Other services they offer: Caridad met us on the first morning and gave us a booklet full of information on Trinidad and also on the activities they offered. We chose to do the horse riding to the sugar valleys and it was amazing! We had the most magical day of riding, talking and sightseeing - a great experience and really good value for money, we were out about 6 hours. They also offer tours to other places such as Cienfuego, Santa Clara etc - having traveled individually to these places I think the tour would have been a better way to do it.
Other comments: An overall brilliant time... we fell in love with Trinidad, its people and its sights! The casa is a welcoming, lovely and truly Cuban experience that we would recommend to anyone traveling that way. Thank you Caridad :)

Casa El Holandes

My review: I spent 2 weeks with a few friends in this country and all three of us wish we had been able to spend more time in Trinidad with these wonderful people. 2 nights was not enough! All the ladies of the home were so warm and generous. Herman and Yolanda were out of town while we were there, but it didn't matter. Everyone was amazing. The food was delicious. Everyone told me i would starve, since I am a vegetarian, but these ladies cooked the best soups and bean dishes! The quiet gallop of horses down the cobblestone streets, was such a welcome relief after 5 days in Havana. We met another traveler at the casa that changed plans so he could enjoy the town and casa another night. When I return, I plan to spend more time at this partcular casa and the nearby beach. Definitely recommend!!!!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: I had both a fan and air-conditioning. Comfortable bed and room to hang clothes and tables to set things out. Towels were also provided.
How was the food they offer?: Delicious!!! Very accommodating!
Other services they offer: Was able to have laundry washed. Helped arrange a driver to pick us up in Havana and then take us to Santiago. New air-conditioned car.

Casa El Holandes

My review: Myself and my friend (2 females) thoroughly enjoyed staying in casa el holandes. Herman, Yolanda and Carida were the perfect hosts. Herman speaks perfect English, which was great as we had very very little Spanish. We had a great day out in his classic Chevrolet, and he was the perfect guide...his knowledge surpassed that of any other guide we met in Cuba. Yolanda and Carida were very very warm and welcoming, always smiling and laughing! Yolanda spoke very little English, but she entertained us with her miming...very funny lady. The casa was lovely and homely, and had a great view over the local area. It was in a perfect location, close to the centre of Trinidad and right in the hub of the locals as well...we got a great impression of local Cuban life, and felt very safe at all times, unlike in Havana. The food was gorgeous...the breakfast was never-ending...fruit, pancakes, bread, smoothie, juice etc etc. And the dinner both nights was to die for, especially the prawns!! I would definitely go back here, and could not recommend it enough!! I just wish we were able to stay longer than 2 nights!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Charming, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Breakfast service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Very comfortable
How was the food they offer?: Delicious

Casa El Holandes

Aanrader dus.

Amenities: Internet for guests, TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower

Casa El Holandes

My review: We had a great time. Yolanda and Herman make for great hosts!
We travelled with our two small kids and were received very warmly and with full flexibility a young family needs. Even considering the casa is so popular, you do not get the feeling that you are only there for the hard currency: Yolanda and Herman take you along in their daily lives and do not try to make cash out of your every move. Apart from their human warmth, it came as quite a pleasant experience in a country where you are in fact considered a commodity.
The house is not smack in the town centre (it is only a short walk), but it gives you close interaction with everyday cuban reality in the vicinity - with some peso restaurants close by.
We can particularly recommend a visit to the family farm in the valle de los ingenios. They have wild plans, but it is already quite an experience into rural Cuba. This visit and the background-explanation that Herman and Yolanda provide for Cuban politics, Cuban daily life with all its odd things tourists want to understand... is really enriching.
The casa of Yolanda and Herman is one of the few casas where we really felt "en casa" / at home. Our kids felt free to run into the patio, we felt free to grab a cup of coffee or a spoon or other things we needed in the kitchen and at night we weren't trapped into the room with our children but sat very at ease reading and chatting in their house. And when the youngest one took a nap, the oldest one was nail-painted by Yolanda and sat with her to watch a cartoon.
In short, it met the expectations we built communicating with Herman before our visit. It was easy and efficient to make a reservation for this casa and Herman provided some tips for planning our trip before we ever set foot in Cuba! Beside our wonderful time with them, we appreciated this service-in-advance a lot!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Fantastic hosts, Roomy, No frills, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: The room is big enough and they can provide an extra bed.
How was the food they offer?: Food was OK, portions large and the atmosphere very homey.
Other services they offer: excursions in and around Trinidad - in an American '50 car.

Casa El Holandes

My review: We enjoyed our stay with Herman, Yolanda, family and personnel very much. Before we even booked, Herman informed us well and was very helpfull. He arranged our transport by minivan (highly recommended!) and when we arrived dinner was ready thanks to Yolanda. Everyone made a big effort to make our stay pleasant. We had great conversations with Herman and - despite the language issue - also with Yolanda about life in Cuba. They made it possible to make the most of our visit. The trip by horse into the valley is really special (if you do not aspect horses and gear like at home ;-) Great views, lots to see, drinking espresso in the jungle, swimming in the natural pool and having a nice guide. Hope to come back some time!

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Charming, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Private bathroom, Minibar, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower

My review: If you are looking for a place to stay in Trinidad look no further. We can highly recommend this casa as Herman and Yolanda will look after you very well. Breakfast and Dinner are super yummy. Don't hesitate to ask Herman for a trip to discover Trinidad area. He will suggest something that suits your interests.
The room is clean and spacious. The patio invites to chill and read a book. We stayed only 2 nights and really would have stayed longer but had already booked a hotel in Havana. Also I found it very convinient that there was no language barrier as Herman speaks fluently English. Overall we had a great time there and felt very welcomed by Herman and Yolanda and their family.

Casa El Holandes

My review: Me and my wife stayed in Casa El Holandes for one week in February, 2013. This was our second time in Cuba. First time was in all inclusive 5 star hotel in Holguin. We liked staying in casa much more. Great hosts, Herman and his wife Yolanda did absolutely everything to make our vacation in Trinidad excellent.
Here are some details.
Booking: We arrived with no advance payment, thanks to hosts.
Transfers to/from airport: Couple of options were suggested by Herman, but we selected taxi. The price was cheaper than if we were going to find a taxi ourselves.
Casa: Clean, close to old town, museums, restos, located in a safe neighborhood. Very nice veranda to chill with a drink.
Room: Convenient, one king and one queen size bed, air conditioner, fan, etc. nice bar with lots of beer, water, etc.
Food: It was far and beyond our expectations. Yolanda’s breakfasts and dinners were really yummy and large too. Coffee was even better. Yolanda helped us to buy Cuban coffeemaker so we are enjoying Cuban coffee at home.
Excursions: Herman organizes any excursion you may need. We did diving and horse riding. Diving instructors were professionals and showed us great corals. Horse riding in the nearby valley was great too. We visited real farm (owned by hosts), former plantations owner’s house and went swimming in a waterfall.
Overall experience: Absolutely fantastic! This is how you experience real Cuba and its culture. In particular, when your hosts provide very useful advice and tips how to explore Trinidad.

Casa specifics: English speaking, Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Kingsize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower

Hostal Holandes

My review: We loved Casa Holandes! My husband, myself and our 3 grown sons, enjoyed the warm hospitality of Yolanda and her Dutch husband, Herman. Yolanda's family has a long history in Trinidad and knows the area and everyone in town! Herman speaks English well and is the consummate host, making everything easy for us, from helping to plan excursions- (we went horseback riding through plantations and visited their finca, hiked to water fall, swam in crystal pools, snorkeled from a reef off of Ancon Beach, hiked Tope'....) to arranging transportation for us.
We enjoyed dinner conversations with their lovely daughter, so knowledgeable about art and music. We explored Trinidad's night together life dancing, til the wee hours. They were so warm, friendly, helpful and really fun!
The food was tasty and a New Year's celebration was prepared for us all. We joined other guests,as well as Yolanda's extended family, dining and dancing into the night!
We enjoyed the roof top deck and exploring the beautiful colonial city of Trinidad. This was a very special find!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Safe
Amenities: Internet for guests, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower

and transportation
Knowledgeable about Cuban culture and history.

Casa El Holandes, Trinidad

My review: Our stay at Casa El Holandes was very nice and we enjoyed it, and Trinidad, a lot. Herman, his wife, and the others in the staff was very friendly and always helped us out if needed.
We didn't have dinners at the Casa (we explored Trinidad instead!) but the breakfast that was served out on the patio, at whatever time we wished, was really good.
We are particularly pleased with the communication we had with Herman before we came to Trinidad, he was very forthcoming, made us feel safe in our booking and arranged for a bicycle taxi to pick us up at the bus station.
Herman also drove us (and another Swedish family, se Tess's review :)) to an excellent beach and came back to pick us up when we were done swimming and sunbathing (excellent beach by the way!).
The room was basic, but clean. Bring ear plugs, and like a previous reviewer said, say hi to the guy selling bread :).

Casa El Holandes, Trinidad

My review: There isn't all that much I can say... I really enjoyed my stay there!
The hosts are very friendly and since Herman is dutch he has a very good understanding of what foreigners can experience while visiting Cuba. He is also very knowledgeable about Cuba and its history.
His wife is always very cheerful and enthusiastic and I can say the same about their staff (they're also very good cooks, by the way).

All in all, a wonderful experience and great memories!

Casa specifics: English speaking, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Cozy, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Balcony, Breakfast service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Clean and practical. Easily the best room we had in Cuba.
How was the food they offer?: Excellent! We didn't even bother to find restaurants.
Other services they offer: The guided tours are very intresting.
Other comments: Take earplugs with you, the street tends to get noisy quite early (say hi to the guy that sells bread for me, will you? ;) ) But this has nothing to do with the casa and when we arrived there were earplugs in our room, which is very thoughtful.

Other comments: I really rekommend this casa for all who is going to Trinidad! Thanks for a great service!

My review: Our visit to Trinidad was one of the highlights of our trip and the kindness and attention we got from our hosts Yolanda, Berta and Herman in their house accounts for a lot in our enjoyment. You feel at home immediately, share drinks with the family and other guests at the end of your day, they cook like real chefs some great cuban food for dinner if you ask them. Herman can organize lots of activities for you (horse rdiding in the country side, trip to Playa Ancon in his old Chevy, visit of Cienfuegos and other cities near Trinidad,...) You just have to ask. After Trinidad we were heading to Habana and they organized everything for us: find and reserve a casa particular at one of their friend's, arrange the travel in a private minibus (for the same price as a Viazul ticket).
This was our first real contact with cuban life (we had spent 3 days in an all-included resort before arriving) and we couldn't have hoped for a better place!

Casa el Holandes

My review: We arrived in the afternoon and were welcomed with a coffee from the house. Soon Yolanda asked if we would like to take dinner in the casa or that we rather would go for dinner into town. We decided to eat in, so they started to prepare the dinner. In the meantime we went to the rooftop to make some great pictures during sunset. Cuba is such a charming country!
In the evening Herman helped us making plans for the next day, which ended up in making a guided tour in his renovated Chevrolet from 1953. This was a very impressive tour where we really got a taste of Cuban history.
Trinidad itself is also a very nice town with it's cobblestone streets. During night you hear people playing music at almost all corners of the street. It is very lively.
All in all we had a very pleasant stay at Casa el Holandes. Both Yolanda and Herman (and the rest of the family) are very kind and doing there atmost best to make it an experience not to forget (when we went out the first night Yolanda came after us to give us a little card so we could always find our way back to the casa)!

Thanks for having us stay in your casa.
Adios, Pascal y Nanda
