Gato Tuerto (El)

El Gato Tuerto It is a nice restaurant. They serve not too elaborated delicious food. Prices are good. People go to the bar at night to enjoy live music. Who could ask for more!

Gaucho (El)

El Gaucho Next to the Meliá Cohiba Hotel swimming pool is El Gaucho, an Argentine styled restaurant with a grill. Red meat is offered under the supervision of chef bambán. Ideal place to have a good meal in a quiet ambience.

Gentiluomo

Gentiluomo

Situated at the top of the boulevard de Obispo, just after Floridita, you will find inside not only a snack bar with stools, but also a metal counter where the chef puts the finishing touches to his dishes. The atmosphere is intimate, simple and sober, in a space surrounded by glass panels that allow customers to see out, but do not allow passers-by to gaze in.

At the far end there is a bar with stools where all the house specialities are displayed; the rest of the establishment is taken up by dark-stained tables and chairs, and some small paintings of an architectural theme.

On the menu you will find different varieties of pizza, spaghetti and lasagne, among others; and it is never over-crowded, due to the proximity of more traditional Cuban restaurants.

  • Address: Obispo, esquina Villegas La Habana Vieja La Habana 10100 Tel: +53 7 573001
  • Open: Midday-11pm daily

Giraldilla (La)

La Giraldilla It is situated in a spectacular farm in the outskirt of Havana. The meat and fish they serve may compete with those of other renowned places. The central patio is beautiful; the main dining room is elegant and the wines cave where diners may have a candlelight dinner is welcoming. Prices are not too high.
  • Address: 222 e/ 37 y Autopista, La Coronela. Tel: (7)336390

Gran Azul

Gran Azul

Open in 2002, this restaurant is added to the offer by the complex "Tarará" -houses, villas, beach, harbour, bars, etc.- The company and the chefs Abdel Raouffi and Alejandro Blanco want to promote a light cuisine, low in sugar and fat, properly cooked.

Among the starters, it is worth to be mentioned "Tosta gratinada de langosta y cangrejo" -a dish made of lobster and crab-. There are other very good dishes such as "Juliana de pargo al limón" -a fine fish-, "Ángel de filete" -delicate meat-, "Grand Bleu" or "Masas de langosta a la almendrina" -an elaborated dish with lobster.

  • Address: Marina Tarará. Playas del Este. La Habana.

Gringo Viejo

  • Address: Calle 21, e/ E y F, Habana Vedado

Guarida (La)

La Guarida

The most famous paladar in Cuba owes its renown in equal parts to the wonderful ambience, dependable cuisine, and the starring role it played in several scenes in the Cuban blockbuster film Fresa y Chocolate.

The three small rooms of this converted apartment are reached by climbing three stories of steep, rundown, and poorly lit stairs. The signed celebrity headshots let you see the stars in whose steps you have just followed.

Start things off with some ceviche, gazpacho, or their signature appetizer of eggplant caviar, a tasty vegetable paste that has the texture the name implies. Fresh red snapper (caimanero) might come in a white-wine or sweet-and-sour sauce--both are good, as is the honey-mustard chicken. There's a modest selection of Spanish and Chilean wines. The ornate facade and balcony balustrades make this place worth a peek during the daytime.

  • Address: Calle Concordia #418, entre Gervasaio y Escobar. Tel: (7) 8624940 / 8637351
  • Open: Daily 7pm-midnight

  • Address: Calle 23 e/ F y G, 17 e/ 6 y 8, Habana Vedado

Huang Hu

Huang Hu It is one of the cheapest restaurants in the Boulevard. They offer good food and a delicious brimmed shrink dish (2 USD). The saloon is not air-conditioned but the terrace is very nice. Waiters are efficient and friendly. It is one of our favorite restaurants.
  • Address: San Nicolás e/ Zanja y Dragones, Centro Habana

Hueco (El)

El Hueco A paladar with a lot of experience. Good prices. They offer Cuban food and pizzas. The staff is very kind
  • Address:Calle 23, esquina 22, Habana Vedado Tel: (7) 300752

Hurón Azul (El) Paladar

El Hurón Azul Located in the centre and very famous to be common between the people of culture and arts, it has many public although it is a small place up to the strain and gives us a forgetable meal. The name was copied from the original site of the Artists and Writers Union, so it should not be confused with this one.
  • Address: 153 Humboldt St, Habana Vedado. Good reputation.

Hurón Azul (El) Restaurante

El Hurón Azul

In the elegant house of the Cuban Writers and Artist Trade Union , and close to the bar with the same name "Hurón azul", it was already a Havana institution. In February 2000 was opened a small restaurant.

Prepare a menu according to the Cuban culture, with foods named "Mambí stew Elpidio Valdés", Cuban "Ajiaco Fernando Ortiz", or the "Paradiso Caramel Custard”, the one that Lezama Lima gave the recipe in his novel. The quality is good and the prices, cheap. Here you can see Pablo Milanés, Fabelo, and other famous writers.

  • Address: 17 esq. H, Vedado

Jardin (El)

Thanks to its decoration and outer appearance, this is one of the most attractive restaurants in the Vedado district. The style is modern, but with colonial elements such as the lamps, doors and wide windows. Meals in both Cuban pesos and CUC convertible pesos are quite reasonable. On the menu there are always dishes such as chicken or pork, as well as vegetable stew, soups, salads and various appetizers. To drink, there are numerous types of cocktails, some spirits, fruit juice, beer and locally-produced soft drinks.

  • Address: Línea esquina C Vedado La Habana 10400 Tel: +53 7 35256
  • Open: Noon-midnight daily

Jardines de Tropicana (Los)

Jardines de Tropicana It is a restaurant in Tropicana Complex. No need to attend the famous show to have dinner, although many people do. It is a nice place with big windows surrounded by vegetation. The food is acceptable. They serve traditional dishes. Its specialty is a stuffed lobster meat fillet they call Billetera fillet Los Jardines. Efficient service.
  • Address: 72 e/ 41 y 45, Marianao. Tel: (7)271717

Jardín del Edén

Jardín del Edén

Opened in may 2003 as a part of the Raquel hotel. Its gastronomic offer is one of the most interessting ones in town, combining classic and renewed recipes of jewish kitchen ( a newcomer in Cuba).

We suggest their "Borscht de remolacha", the "Ensalada israelita", the three kinds of Shashlick and as a side dish the tasty Latkes or "Kugel de vegetales". The whole ambient and its decoration are very elegant and prices are surprisingly reasonable.

  • Address: Calle Amargura nº 103 esquina a San Ignacio. La Habana. Tel: (7) 860 8280

Jardin de las Hesperides

  • Address: Calle 19 #608, e/ B y C, Habana Vedad

Jazz Café Restaurant

Jazz Café Restaurant Modern place located in the shopping centre in front of the Meliá Cohíba Hotel. It offers a correct menu in which the salads and meats outstand. The prices are relatively low. At night it becomes a jazz club.
  • Address: Paseo y 3ª, Vedado Tel: (7) 553170

Juana La Cubanas

  • Vedado

Julia (La)

  • Address: Calle O'Reilly #506, entre Bernaza y Villegas

Las Vegas (Breakfast & Brunch)

Located in the entrance hall of the cabaret of the same name, this bar only has three or four tables and a serving counter at one end. Walls decorated with ceramic tiles add an agreeable touch to the place, which looks out onto a quiet street, found on the border of Central Havana and the Vedado district. As the premises are separated from the walkway by plant boxes, and the tables are fairly well spaced out, this is a good place if you are looking for somewhere to be able to talk easily. Snacks and drinks available include fried chicken, a selection of sandwiches, fruit juice, beer, malt drinks and Cuban soft drinks.

  • Address: Infanta 104 entre 25 y 27 Vedado La Habana Tel: +53 7 707939
  • Open: 24 hours daily

Long Sai Li

Los XII Apóstoles

Los XII Apóstoles This restaurant, as well as "La Divina Pastora", belongs to Castillo del Morro. The present one is cheaper than the other, with simpler kind of food and not so extraordinary visitors. The place has a correct service and an excellent bar with terrace too.
  • Address: Castillo del Morro. La Habana Tel: (7) 8638295

Lung Kong

Lung Kong

Opened in march 2003 and situated within the chinese district. Nevertheless only a part of the menu offers dishes based on this tradition. The rest of the food is international but especially for those dishes taken out of a Spanish cookbook.

Right now we prefer the anthological paellas (Spanish dish based on rice) and the shrimp puff pastry but the menu is changing constantly. The place is comfortable with a rather discrete decoration. Prices will make you smile but don’t forget to take a reservation.

  • Address: Calle Dragones nº 364 entre Manrique y San Nicolás. La Habana Tel: (7) 8632061
