Taberna Café
Café Taberna is
also known as 'el Rincón de Beny Moré'
(Beny's corner), because the whole place is dedicated
to the man and his music. Full of new jukeboxes and
old pictures of pre-Revolutionary celebrities, the airy
bar/restaurant has a 1950s feel to it. El Septeto Matamoros
and the Septeto Son de Trópico play son and bolero
music here daily from 11am to 5pm and from 7pm to 11pm.
Watch out: the waiters will rip you off in a flash.
- Address: Calle Mercaderes
#531, esquina a Brasil (Teniente Rey)

| Taberna
de la Muralla
Opened
in june 2003 by the austrian company Salm and the Cuban
Habaguanex, this pub is probably the best one on the
island. It is situated on sunny Plaza Vieja, inside
an imposing colonial, XVIII century building. As the
place is also factory and museum where curious objects
linked to the world of beer consume are exposed, at
its magnificent bar inside you can finally enjoy draught
beers (something almost impossible in Cuba), clear and
dark, Pilsen or typical Bavarian ones, from the establishment’s
own production. Enjoy its different, beautiful halls
and precious inner yard. For those who feel hungry after
drinking, different kind of sausages, hamburgers and
other simple dishes are available.

Taberna
del Tío Cabrera
This
place doesn’t hide its previlege to rappresent
Cuba’s oldest catering business, founded around
1760. We consider the gastronomic offer to be quite
poor with a need to be improved not only because of
its historical back ground but also because of the fact
that in this village, situated 25 km away from La Habana,
is taking place the biennial festival of the good humour.
In addition, one of the most important film schools
all over the world is just around the corner as well
as the birth place of the troubadour Silvio Rodríguez.
- Address:
San Antonio de los Baños. La Habana

This
establishment is made up of a nice terrace and a small
bar, enjoying wonderful views too. It is located in
the great Castillo del Morro, just at the entry of Havana´s

to eat light meals. But, be careful! because the waiters
try to serve lobsters -excellent, though- or so, instead
of sandwiches, from the restaurant next to the bar.

| Terraza
(La)
This open-air, roof-top
disco is a little dilapidated, but it does have a great
view of the ocean and the city. It's geared towards
both foreigners and nationals - it tends to get packed
with Cubans, especially on Saturdays - and prices are
very reasonable. There's a mixed music policy (everything
from salsa to techno) and a live show at 10pm from Friday
to Sunday.

Avenida de Italia (Galiano) #164, esquina a Virtudes

| Terraza
del Hotel
Nacional (La)
Stroll up the palm tree-lined,
spotlit driveway; breeze past the fancily dressed doormen;
strut straight through the glorious lobby and you'll
pop out onto the Nacional's magnificent terrace; settle
into a sofa and within a minute you can order that cocktail
($3.50) can't be bad. This is definitely the
place to smoke your latest black market purchases, but
it's not at all pretentious and is the place in Havana
to chill out. With music comfortably in the background
and seats throughout the grounds, this place should
not be missed. As a bonus you'll be rewarded with the
best sea view in Havana.
Outside tables.

| Túnel
(El)
The
worst years of “the special period” are
over and Cuba is economically stronger. El Túnel
is a clear example of this development.Young Cubans,
dressed like any young European person, use to go there
from Thursday to Sunday to dance the night away. This
“cave” lies in La Vibora, a non tourist
district. The place is in fashion today; loud music,
dancing, a well provided bar with good prices and a
healthy ambience are part of the offer. Only few foreigners
go to El Túnel; maybe they have never heard of
the place.
