Casa Mercedes
Great location, clean, friendly, secure, wonderful hostess and staff. Comfortable bed, safe inside room, nice bath with hot water, delicious breakfast, A+ in every way!

Casa Mercedes
My wife and I spent a week at Casa Mercedes, while we visited Habana Vieja. Our room was very clean, as was the rest of the house. The breakfast was very hearty, with plenty of fruit, eggs, and bread. The best part for us was the hospitality. We had no idea what to visit, and Mercedes gave us some very helpful suggestions, and made phone calls to find information for us. Mercedes speaks English very well, and has a network of friends on whom she relies to help her guests. We would strongly recommend Jorge and Mercedes at Casa Mercedes.

Casa Mercedes
We booked this casa and had a lot of email-contact with Mercedes about pick-up at airport and different things. When we arrived, casa was fully booked!!!! Mercedes told us a very long story with different explanations why we couldn't stay at her casa, which all didn't seem very plausible. Then she send us to a friend where we could stay, after showing her beautiful casa and making sure that we would book our last days in Cuba at her casa. The other casa was by far the worst casa we saw in Cuba and much much less than Casa Mercedes.
So Casa Mercedes is beautiful, but don't be sure that you can stay at her casa although you have some confirmations!
Therefore, I would not definitely not recommend this casa.

I have stayed twice so far at this excellent casa in Old Havana. Two clean and quiet rooms with A/C, safe, own bathroom. Good breakfasts. Mercedes is very helpful and has many recommendations of places to visit or eat out, will arrange taxis to the airport or elsewhere and will make arrangements for you for bus and casa accommodation if you are touring around Cuba.
I'm looking forward to staying there again when I pass through Havana later this month (Nov 09).

Casa Mercedes
Me and a friend stayed in Casa Mercedes in Havana Vieja on two occasions in September 2009. We have some mixed experiences with this casa.
Let me start of on a positive note. The casa is located on a good location, in a more quiet street next to the main street of Havana Vieja. The lady host Mercedes is very friendly and gave us some great recommendations for other houses in Cuba, which turned out to be all good ones (without any exception). She speaks good English.
The room (30 CUC per night, 4 CUC for breakfast) is nice and relatively clean and has a lovely high ceiling which makes the room appear much bigger than it actually is. The bathroom is among the best I've seen in Cuba.
When we told her we'd stay one night less than originally mentioned, she started to become unfriendly, saying that she refused other people for us (this wasn't the case, the casa was again fully booked the next day, just the lady overbooks her casa as she sometimes rents 3 rooms while she's legally only allowed to rent 2). Also she said that the Viazul bus station was closed for the day and that we were too late to buy tickets (it was of course open, there are many buses running in the evening). Another reason why we have mixed experiences is that this lady insisted to buy cigars from her, and not some place else. These turned out to be absolutely rubbish quality and only after some discussion, she called her friend to get us some better ones. All in all we had the experience that this lady was a little too money hungry and didn't mind lying to get what she wanted.

La casa di Mercedes è situata all\'Avana Veja, in ottima posizione per girare il centro della città. Oltre alla pulizia e alle abbondanti colazioni consiglio la scelta per l\'accoglienza che abbiamo avuto io e la mia compagna: Mercedes si è informata del lungo giro che volevamo fare nell\'Isla grande e ci ha consigliato le case particular dove andare. Tutte si sono rivelate veramente eccellenti (a Santiago, Baracoa, Remedios e Trinitad) tranne una che purtroppo era piena nei nostri giorni passati ad Holguin. Il costo della stanza è di 30 CUC, quello della colazione 4 CUC a persona, la cassetta di sicurezza 1 CUC al giorno, il servizio di lavanderia 10 CUC. Mercedes si è dimostrata disponibile anche a trovarci i taxi per l'aeroporto. E' un indirizzo che consiglio caldamente: se andate a Cuba per andare con le cubane, però, dimenticatevi di questa casa particular. Mercedes non gradisce - e per fortuna - che si portino ragazze all\'interno.
Purtroppo non si può mangiare ma all\'Avana non mancano certo i posti dove andare.
The Mercede's house is in Habana Veja, in excellent position to visit the city centre. The house is clean and the breakfast is copious. Mercedes is very kind: she found and advise all the other casas particulares of our tuor in Cuba (all houses very ok). Fourtunately Mercedes doesn't like who search easy sex. The price: room 30 CUC/night, breakfast 4 CUC/person, security box 1 CUC/day, laundry service 10 CUC. This is a very good address!
