Casa Alberto y Melba
My review: Melba was absolutely fantastic from start to finish; from a good strong coffee to welcome us)(gracias Alberto), through to helping us arrange our itinerary and providing contacts. The breakfasts were ENORMOUS and lovely on the balcony! We were lucky as we probably benefitted much more than some from their experiences due to being proficient in Spanish - and I think that is the same for most who use Casas if I'm honest. A safe space, 1 min from the Malecon, a hotel which provided trips and the internet as well as money changing, and a caring, honest and lovely couple to live with. We were hoping to return for our last 2 nights but my husband broke his rib - Melba even offered help with that too even though we weren't able to stay with her. The only down side may be if you aren't ! good with small lifts and can't walk up many flights of stairs but if I'm honest...don't hesitate, just go!

Casa Melba and Alberto
My review: My Wife, my 1.5 year old and i loved our stay here. Alberto and Melba were very warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. We were looking for something authentically cuba and we felt this was a great way to start our holiday. The food and the rooms were good and hey were very accommodating to our little boy.
Melba was also able to assist when we needed to look for accomodation elsewhere and send us to the right hospital when we need to seek medical assitance for our boy.

Casa Alberto Y Melba
My review: We took both rooms for a family of 5, including ourselves and our three teenage children for 7 days in Havana. The rooms were very comfortable, and with air conditioning. Our room had a lovely balcony with views over Centro Habana, the Malecon, and towards the Vedado district. Alberto and Melba were great hosts who made us feel welcome, and gave us good advice for tours and the general day to day stuff in Havana. The Hotel Dauville is just one block away, and here we could change money using both foreign currencies as well as credit and debit cards. The money changes in Habana Vieja are always crowded and slow. We had breakfast and dinners on most days. Melba is a great cook and never leaves you feeling hungry.
The location is very central, within walking distance of all attractions in Centro and Old Havana, and always lots of taxis outside the door when you need them. We could not have had a more positive experience visiting this most unique of cities. A safe house with complete confidence in our Hosts Alberto and Melba.

Casa Alberto Y Melba
My review: Very nice people and Melba is a very warm mother like kind lady. Also their son and Alberto are very nice and friendly people. Very helpfull, you can ask advice on where to go in Habana. They also warn you about things to be carefull for. The food was the best we have eating in whole cuba!! For us this was the best casa we stayed at!! Nice vieuw also and a lot of privacy. Very central everything is close by walking distance. You can say what time you want to eat and what you want to eat very flexible. We reccomment the lobster very big and tasty!! but al the other food is also real good and tasty.
They can tell you al lot about the country and how things works.
If you go to cuba habanna go to this casa!! this one is the best!! for us NUMBER ONE!!

Casa Alberto y Melba
My review: A thoroughly beautiful Casa with wonderful hosts as well. The food was top notch and the family were always helpful and friendly. The rooms were a nice size, with my room having a balcony with tables and chairs to savour the view. There is also an outside area downstairs.
The family atmosphere of this casa is definitely one of its main attractions.
I would definitely recommend staying here.

Alberto y Melba
My review: The casa was situated in Central Habana, so you are right in the middle of Havana life, very near to everything - a stones throw from the Malecon. The view from the balcony is amazing - you can see out onto Havana.
Melba and Alberto made us feel right at home and they were so lovely to us. The breakfasts were gorgeous and the dinner we had there, probably one of the best meals in Cuba. We ate out one night, but I definitely preferred Melba's dinner. Would def recommend staying there.
We stayed in the twin room, which had aircon and was perfectly comfortable and very clean and had its own bathroom.

Other services they offer: Alberto does boxing - so if you are interested in boxing then this is the place for you. There were also a lot of travel books there, so there was good info on what to do and see.

My review: Melba is just like your own Mum - full of advice, worries about you and cooks excellent food! We were made to feel very welcome and their casa has amazing views of the ocean! Good location for the Malecon and central Habana. Felt nice to be staying right in a families home - which was very clean, tidy and homely. Lovely balconies and lounge area you can use.

Melba and Alberto
My review: My sisters & niece stayed here 4 nights. We were welcomed & fed dinner at 9PM in the evening. The 8th floor apt. has views of the ocean & city & large rooms with private bathrooms. We ate most meals at the casa and Melba is an excellent cook and as my niece described her, she has class. We found the homemade food in casas better than restaurants. My niece even cooked a dinner with her one evening. Alberto and their 2 college age children were warm
and welcoming. The casa location was great, easy access to other parts of town.

Casa Melba & Alberto
My review: Melba and Alberto were the best hosts we had during our stay. Melba speaks a little English, as do her children, so it was easy to communicate. They are both warm and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and roomy. While the front room has a balcony with an amazing view, the air conditioning is better in the back bedroom. Staying with them was great, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Havana.

We had a very nice stay at Alberto & Melbas casa: a clean room and a private bathroom. Ask for the room with the balcony from where one has an amazing view over Havana. Melba talks English and they were very helpfully with all our requests.

Amazing casa, lovely genuine people and a top place to stay in Havana. Super clean with delicious food. The room at the front with the balcony has outstanding views across the city. Walking distance to everything, but lovely and quiet as well. Highly recommended.

Review
Five of us in total stayed at this casa and we had the best time! Alberto and Melba are wonderful hosts and make you feel so at home. The food is amazing - its the best food we had in Cuba the entire 2 weeks we were there. The casa is very central and within walking distance to many sights and attractions. Melba was very helpful with everything we needed. The casa is on the 8th floor and has a wonderful view over Havana. Forget the hotels, stay here next time you're in Havana!!!

Review
Casa Alberto y Melba is the best place to stay in Havanna. A great casa for all type of travellers; safe, central and clean. A great view to Malecon from the lovely familis veranda. Melba and Alberto and their twins made our first holliday with our baby son special. What a careing, polite and serviceminded host! Melbas cooking is excellent, and our little son loved her precent nature.
Thank you for babysitting, hospitality and company.

What an amazing family and house!
It was the perfect place to launch my four month journey through Cuba. Melba was like a mother, very comforting and resourceful.
The entire family was very welcoming the moment i stepped in the door!
Melba can also set up Spanish lessons with a wonderful professor who can teach English, French, Spanish, and Arabic!
Whenever i went back to visit them for a coffee i always met amazing people staying with them, they attract a very good crowd.

How was your room?: I had the opportunity to stay in both of their rooms.
The first room was fantastic! Huge french doors that open onto a sweet little patio that looks out onto Centro Havana and the Malecon! It was a perfect perch for my morning coffee and the all Cuban activity of people watching!
The second room is also nice, two twin beds with a big window and a nice large bathroom.
How was the food they offer?: Melba's cooking is fantastic, huge portions, enough for three, and deliciouse! She also makes a mean coffee!

Review
The casa seemed pretty nice but we had no chance to see it since they took some other guests instead of us who got there earlier even though we had booked already. Appearantely this happens often and wasnt much of problem as Alberto found us another casa with the same price but at a MUCH lower standard and no view which wasn't very nice from our point of view. The owner of the house was very nice but we were just a bit disappointed. We only stayed for 1 night and thus didnt start to make a fuss or move.

We had a great stay at Alberto y Melba! Fantastic hosts! They had a big apartment on the top floor. View is fabulous and you can smell the sea. We stayed there with our 7 months old baby one week in December and one week in January 2011. He spent the days crawling on the floor or in the arms of either Melba, Alberto or one their grown-up kids, Sami and Sandra. Torvind loved them all and we really appreciate all the help and baby-sitting! They looked after him during meals, when we had salsa lessons and when we went out to practice salsa in the evening. Thank you! They were all great people, we already miss them and we would definitely stay there when we go back.

I know Melba and Alberto personally for years. They are great people with a big heart. Their home is one of the nicest in Centre Havana - high quality house which stands out in broken Cuba. The house is beautiful, they keep the rooms in top condition, and Melba's cooking and motherly care will make you feel like you are in good hands. If you were ever to catch a virus in Cuba, they will treat you like family. Little secret: Ask Alberto for his "orgasmic" chicken dish. I am not kidding! It's been my pleasure knowing this family for so many years and setting up my friends and clients in their home. I highly recommend you book your room way in advance because they get booked all year long. Having the patio in the house with such a beautiful view is also a perk.
