Casa Aleido

My review: Me and my boyfriend stayed at Casa Aleido. The room we occupied was spacious and very clean. The indescribable decor gives a certain charm to this house where we immediately felt at home. The meals at the casa were of good quality and treated water was available at all times. The gates at the entrance and a cameras system make it a safe place. The beach is within 30 minutes drive and activities in the city are numerous. But what makes the difference is the atmosphere at the casa. Tourists and visitors to the house made ??our stay an experience we want to renew as soon as possible. We recommend this place without hesitation if you are open to the world.

A hello to everyone in Cuba from Quebec.

Casa Aleido

My review: This is my second stay at casa Aleido. I am pleased to hear that she became even better. My favorite room - penthouse - has been renovated and became noticeably more comfortable. In addition, if you climb to the roof of the house, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Capitol and old Havana. Like last year, breakfasts and dinners at Aleido was just wonderful and quite solid. But they were always delicious. Owner of the house - Aleido are very hospitable people, and it is extremely friendly and helpful. Like all of his assistants. I sincerely thank Aleido and his team for the very comfortable rest in his beautiful casa.

CASA ALEIDO

My review: Great place and centrally located!
You have the choice to eat in or out as well as mingling with Aleido and his friends for instance when they play domino; or keeping your privacy if you so wish.
I like staying there as I travel alone mostly and this place gives me the opportunity to meet other travellers to hang out with. Food is varied and delicious, see photo of the cook preparing lobster. I recommend the place if you want to stay somewhere quirky with a bubbly owner.

How was your room?: big and spacious
can be a bit noisy though at times,as it faces a boulevard
How was the food they offer?: great with generous portions

Casa Aleido

My review: I stayed for two weeks at Aleido´s in July. My purpose was to take percussion classes in Havana. It was great staying at Casa Aleido because Aleido and his very friendly staff care a lot about their guests. The food was delicious, the room was quiet and clean. Aleido also helped me a great deal to find the right percussion teacher and could always give me good advice where to go.

Casa Aleido

My review: i've been to Cuba from the first of june untill 10th of june, travelled as a couple and stayed at casa aleido for 4 days. the house is very beautifull, the food is amazing, but the best is aleido and hannibal! they are very helpfull and friendly, my boyfriend got sick (not because of the food) and they did everything to help us, we are very thankfull for this! otherwise, they helped us plan our tour, suggesting a casa at vinales and trinidad (casa nela in vinales was outstanding too) and they gave us some information about Cuba and havana. Hannibal is Always busy doing something in the house or cooking, but also available for all your questions. if you like to party in havana, they like to party too and will invite you if you want to come with them. the best way to travel in Cuba is staying in casa's, don't go to a hotel except if you just want to stay on the beach and do nothing. I extremely recommend casa aleido in havana and casa nela in vinales. if you read this, hannibal or aleido: Thank you for everything, we want to come back!

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Colonial, Charming, Pets in the house
Amenities: Internet for guests, TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Kingsize bed, Bathroom with tub, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: different rooms available, our room was very big, beautifull, view on el capitol, big balcony
How was the food they offer?: WAUW

Casa de Aleido

My review: Aleido´s house is located un a strategic, convenient and safe location. Standing in his front door, one cannot imagine who big and splendid this place is. Rooms are large, clean, comfortable and decorated with the unique style of our host. There are several fresh and comfortable common areas where endearing friendships promise to begin.
But the surprises do not end here. Aleido is a great cook, do not forget to try his dishes. At my request, he cooked some kind of vegetarian souffle: wonderful. I suspect his secret ingredient the love he puts in everything he does.
Aleido soon adopted us and became our Cuban mother. The revolution should reward him for being the gateway to this extraordinary country, do not hesitate to ask for advice on visit plan, trips within Cuba, shopping or even on love and life.
Thank you dear Aleido!
--------------
¡Gracias querido Aleido!

How was your room?: Unforgettable.
How was the food they offer?: Best food in Cuba.

Casa Aleido

My review: Aleido is the " godmother" of all gays in Havana as I jokingly told him. He is a welcoming and generous person who will help you getting around Havana, including tips on how to safely enjoy its gay life. He will take you out with his friends and make you feel at home. You easily get to know other tourists staying at his casa and make new friends.
The rooms are nice and clean, breakfast is very good and Aleido cooks excellent dinners (he used to have a restaurant).
Aleido made my stay in Havana special and allowed me to peek into its gay scene safely.
I definitely recommend his casa!

Casa Aleido

My review: This was our first time in Cuba and I can honestly say that staying at Casa Aleido was a highlight and definitely made our time in Havana special! Aleido and his friends/family are so friendly and welcoming you immediately feel like you are at home. We stayed in the main room which has to be the most fabulous room I have ever seen in my life...silk drapes and bedding, really comfortable double bed, a huge sitting area with sofas, a chandelier, tv/stereo system, adjoining dining area and bathroom...it was so beautiful, ornate and cosy that at times we had to drag ourselves outside to do things. The food at Aleido's is also amazing, we had breakfast every morning which consisted of ham, eggs, bread, fresh fruit, tea & coffee and was definitely enough to set you up for a day of sightseeing. We also had a delicious lobster dinner for 10 pesos which was such a treat as lobster is so expensive in London. Having been told by our taxi driver at the airport that we were going to be staying in a terrible area (I think he was lying so he could make us stay at another casa and earn commission) we quickly realised on arrival at Aleido's that we couldn't have been in a better location!! Close to all the main attractions in Havana Centro and an easy walk to Havana Viejo as well. I honestly cannot recommend staying at Aleido's enough, it is such a unique casa and will really make your time in Havana unforgettable.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: TV, Safety box, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Kingsize bed, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Amazing!! The most fabulous room I have ever seen, so beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable, I honestly did not want to leave!
How was the food they offer?: Delicious!! Breakfast and dinner were both yummy and really filling, great value for money!
Other comments: Stay at Casa Aleido when in Havana, you will not regret it!!!

Casa Aleido

My review: As this being my fifth visit to Cuba I can honestly say that of all places I've been to in this country Casa Aleido is THE BEST! As for me being a budget traveller with a main interest for history, culture, music and dance I could not wish for a better place than this casa.
First of all this is my second stay at this house, I've stayed there for 3 weeks already in 2010 and this month (march 2013) for 2 weeks in a row. Important to know is that this internet site indicates that his house is gay friendly, this does certainly not mean that you have to be gay to stay at his place. The owner Aleido is a warm and wonderful host to all guests, it doesn't matter if you're gay, a heterosexual male (like myself) or a woman, Aleido treats everybody with respect. Next to being a very kind person Aleido also has many years of experience working with foreigners/ tourists. This makes him well informed and very well organized. If you have any question or a problem with something just ask or tell him or his staff about it and they will surely know what to do or where to go and in case of a (little) problem put everything into work to solve it and make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Casa Aleido has a variety of rooms, all budget priced, roomy, cozy and comfortable. the rooms include: a safetybox, king/queensize bed, tv (sometimes with DVD), refrigerator and a shower with HOT WATER! Hey, could you ask for more on budget expense?
Next to all this Aleido is also a great cook, he offers optional, for really moderate pricing, breakfast in the morning including eggs, bacon, cheese, fruit, fruit juice, tea and coffee and also if desired evening dinner including a variety of dishes like: chicken, pork, fish, lobster all served with rice and beans or fries, accompanied by vegetables and even sometimes soup. And believe me this comes in portions that you surely never leave his table hungry!
Laundry service is also not a problem, they do the laundrey (and the ironing) different times a week, so I've never had any problem finding clean clothes to wear. Might there still be something forgotten, a supermarket is right next door to his appartment.

Another reason for visiting Aleido's place while staying in Havana is the simple fact that he resides at the greatest location thinkable. The centre of town only a couple of meters from Hotel Inglaterra, this means that you have almost everything worth seeing in nearly walking distance. For example, the Old Town/ Habana Vieja with lots of museums, cathedrals, bars, restaurants, banks, shops, etc. Is only a 5 to 10 minute walk from his house, the same goes for the Prado (walking boulevard), the Capitol and even nightclubs and discotheques like Casa de La Musica (Galiano) and Cabaret Nacional. Within 15 minutes you can walk to the waterfront/ Malecon if you like or even to Barrio Chino (China Town.) There’s just so much to see and do in proximity of his house you never get bored. And even if you’re not that much of a wanderer, just in front of Hotel Inglaterra you can find real cheap taxi’s 24 hours a day, it’s very easy just show on your map or ask (always in advance!) the driver how much it will cost to take you to any direction or sight, and off you go. You can even choose between a bicycle taxi (bicitaxi), motorscooter taxi (cocotaxi) or a normal cab, the first two are obviously the cheapest. Horse carriages and the local tour bus also offer city sightseeing just across the street. Hotel Inglaterra itself also offers excursions to for example the country side, the beach, Tropicana show or (other) city tours.
Though if you rather spend your time going out at night checking out the party scene that can also easily be arranged. Next to some clubs being in proximity of the house there are different really BOOMIN’ nightclubs and discotheques scattered all over town and remember this is Cuba that means that next to DJ’s they have live music nearly everywhere. Where during the day and night time the Old Town/ Habana Vieja will provide you with live traditional cuban music like Son and Boleros (mostly 40’s and 50’s styles of music) other parts of town, like Centro Habana where this casa stands will provide you with the latest sounds in Reggaeton, Salsa and Timba. Because of the great tradition and high standard of music that Cuba has you can find live performances and concerts almost everyday. In less than one week I’d already witnessed Los Cuatro, Maykel Blanco, Los Van Van and Bamboleo live in concert!
Nice to know is that Aleido is a very well known person in the community and also in the party scene. This means that if you rather not explore this nightly scene alone, Aleido can always arrange a friend (male or female) or a member of his staff to come along with you. He might even join you himself if he’s not to busy working. Don’t be afraid of taking along somebody that he knows, most of them are very kind at heart and lots of fun to have around. Though keep in mind that because of the circumstances that a lot of cubans have to live in (poverty), the party scene (among many other things of daily living) can be very expensive for them, be prepared to pay the entrance of a club and even a drink or two for them, normally it’s quite cheap for foreigners. (Example: a normal working cuban might earn between CUC 8,- and CUC 20,- a month, that’s about 8 to 20 US dollars, most nightclubs charge CUC 5,- or CUC 10,- at the entrance alone, a soda or beer normally starts at CUC 1,-, talking about expensive!)

Calle San Rafael, the street where this casa is at, is a shopping street. During the day there’s a lot of activity here but after closing hours it’s fairly quiet and never have I experienced any disturbance or loud noises, so you can even get your goodnight sleep.
Because Cuba is still a very safe place for foreigners/ tourists you can easily wander around without the fear of being brutally harassed or attacked by locals, the thruth is that the mayority of the cuban people are still very friendly and helpful, the only thing that does frequently occur is people offering or try selling you something. Though sometimes a little annoying, it’s nothing really unusual and by shaking your head and kindly saying “no gracias/ no thank you” will mostly shake them off.
Though you have some beggars and even some people that try to swindle you out of some money, I’ve never encountered any violence in one form or another. Just use your common sense and you’ll be alright. Try to realize that this is a third world country, that many people here live a hard life, but next to trying to make a little money to survive they really don’t mean you any harm!

And finally I’d like to say that I would recommend Casa Aleido to anybody looking for a nice budget priced, comfortable, really fun to be at, 100% “a lo cubano” casa.
It doesn’t matter if your planning to stay 1 month or only 2 days, Aleido welcomes everybody. What more can I say, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT, IT’S THE GREATEST, what do you have to lose???

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Elegant, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Kingsize bed, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Perfect! It included everything I'd wished for.
How was the food they offer?: Great! This casa offers a variety of dishes, Aleido is a great cook and with all that he serves he definitely makes sure you'll never leave his table hungry!

Casa Aleido

My review: So, this was my first time in Cuba, no Espanol and solo (and straight - not like it matters). I left my booking very late and by chance I had come across Aleido's casa, and the reviews sounded pretty good. When I made the booking, the agent told me that it was booked out with one room remaining for a shared bathroom. I was fine with that and jumped to book, as casas with good reviews are quick to go!

I arrived in Cuba on a Saturday evening - it was buzzing and a little overwhelming for a newb! The moment I arrived at la casa, Aleido, Anibal and friends warmly greeted me and settled my 1st world nerves. My immediate impression of the house was the sweet smell, followed by its elegantly eccentric decor, and spotlessly cleanliness.

I booked to stay at Aleido’s for 7 nights and being a solo female, my plan was to just have a chillaxing week sightseeing Havana and day trips to the beach. I wasn’t planning on much nightlife on my own. But on the night I arrived, Aleido and his friends were going to the discotek (aka nightclub) and invited me to join them – and I accepted with glee! They looked after me and made sure I was safe and having fun – and OMG was it FUN!!!

Through my stay I met other returning guests of the house and now I totally understand why they’ve come back. Aleido, his family and his friends are so lovely and warm, they made me feel like family without pressure or smothering attention. They kindly gave me directions for all the touristy things on my list of to do’s like the museums, old Havana (all across the road!), Malecon, the castles (down the street) and the bus to the beach (at the end of the short street). The house is walking distance to everything – it is truly Centro!

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Hidden gem, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Patio
Amenities: TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: I stayed in the blue room with an adjacent bathroom just outside. The room is tidy, cozy, quiet, has air-cond, wardrobe, queen bed, TV. Do not worry about the shared bathroom – it is immaculately cleaned! Being a princess, I think I took the longest time in there, and I don’t remember having to wait for anyone either! ? There are two/three other rooms that have their own bathrooms.
How was the food they offer?: I had breakfast and dinner everyday except for one night. It was very reasonably priced and fantastic every time!
Breakfast - eggs (however you like it), ham, bread, fruit, juice, coffee.
Dinner - you can request for whatever you prefer. I had chicken, fish, pork, and lobster. All deliciously cooked accompanied by salad, rice and frijoles.
The night I went out for dinner at a fancy paladar, it was nice and romantic, but food was better at Aleido’s. Even writing this review gives me cravings! Ugh!
Other services they offer: laundry if you need it.
Other comments: I totally lucked out staying at Aleido’s. Not only did I get an A+ tourist experience, I got a little taste of Cuban life. I’ll definitely be coming back to Aleido's with some Spanish up my sleeves to get to know a bit more!

Casa Aleido

My review: My stay with Aleido and his friends was great, he is a very open man, always there for you, very honest, and really concerned about your well being! His casa is roomy, very central Havana, with nice features and several amenities, besides that the casa is gay friendly so the vibe will be always happy and colorful!

Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Roomy, Safe, Patio
Amenities: Internet for guests, TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Laundry service, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: My room was very roomy, with a couple size bed, private bathroom, minibar, few tables so I could leave my things, safe-box, TV, air con, and small balcony facing the street.
How was the food they offer?: Great, he has had a restaurant so the man knows how to cook, and the price is fair for what he offers, the portions are also big, enough for two guests!
Other comments: Aleido is really concerned with your well being, so when you go partying, he asks one of his workers to go with you in case you need, I could drink freely and dance and walk and explore without fear because I knew there would be someone around to help me.

Casa Aleido

My review: Forget the Full English and the Full Monty; for the Full Cuban experience stay at Casa Aleido. Enough said!
But if that doesn't fully convince you, the excellent location, excellent accommodation, excellent hosts, excellent food and drinks, excellent company, excellent price and excellent service will do.

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Hidden gem, Roomy, Charming, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: Internet for guests, TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: We were in two rooms during our 10 day stay. The first was an average sized room with shared toilet/shower just in the hall which was absolutely fine. The second was a huge deluxe suite with balcony windows opening onto the street so somewhat more noisy but also fine.
How was the food they offer?: Food was great with ample breakfast and even more ample dinners for reasonable fixed prices with lots of choices, freshly prepared to order. We had fish, shrimp, prawns, lobster, chicken, beef, and pork with rice and beans, potatoes, plantains, vegetables and fresh salads during our stay. All delicious.
Other services they offer: Aleido, his partner Hannibal, and the remainder of his staff are always ready and able to assist with whatever their guests' needs may be. All you have to do is ask and they will help or steer you in the right direction.
Other comments: Thanks to Aleido, Hannibal, and everyone at Casa Aleido for making our stay and trip to Havana an excellent and memorable one. We will be back for another stay without a doubt.

CASA ALEIDO

My review: The house is ideally located just a short walking distance from the old city. I went to the fine arts museum and the cuban arts museum both also just a short walking distance from the house; the situation of the house suited my needs perfectly as I travelled on my own and prefer walking rather than take taxis. Aleido overall is generally very cheerful with his guests and tries to help whereever he can.
Likewise everybody else in the house helping him try their best to make your stay very pleasant.

How was your room?: My room was facing the front of the house and huge but very comfortable although can be a bit noisy at times with music from outside. But then again this adds to the charm and overall success of your stay.
How was the food they offer?: The food on offer was plentiful and tasty. The host tried his best to meet your eating requirements be it special dishes you would like to try or your preferred times.
Other services they offer: Laundry service on request if you stay longer or need to have your clothes washed.
Other comments: All in all I had a pleasant stay and will definitely stay here again as the house offers family feel as well as independence.

Casa Aleido

My review: I stayed at Casa Aleido for two nights during my trip through Cuba. Aleido and his friends were so lovely and welcoming. Very lively and happy too!
I was in the room with the balcony, overlooking San Rafael (a pedestrian-only street). The room was HUGE, with a sitting area and kitchen area in addition to the bed / bathroom.
Aleido cooked me a delicious dinner one night, and I had breakfast there both mornings - plenty of food and reasonable prices.
The location was perfect - easy walking distance to lots of things in both Habana Centro and Habana Vieja.
Would highly recommend Casa Aleido as a great place to stay in Havana :)

Casa specifics: Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: Safety box, Private bathroom, Minibar, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Bathroom with shower

My review: We booked this casa through cuba-junky since we wanted to stay in the centre of Havana.
When we arrived we didn't know what to expect, but we were happily suprised with this very nice casa, very enthusiastic owner and a lot of very nice friends and family that we met during our stay. It was just if we were home :) I'm sure that we could not find a better place to stay. It was our 3rd time in Havana and we found this casa, the hidden pearl of Havana.

Casa specifics: English speaking, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Colonial, Charming, Beautiful, Safe, Pets in the house
Amenities: Internet for guests, TV, Safety box, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was huge with a small balcony and very nice decorated with lots of colours and nice furtniture. A private bathroom and toilet, safe, refrigerator and airconditioning.
How was the food they offer?: We joined daily the magnificant Breakfast with fresh fruit, fresh juice, bread, eggs and everything you can think of for breakfast. Especially delicious coffee!.
Also dinner was great!! they prepare what you want to eat, with the special Cuban touch!
Other services they offer: Aleido is so friendly and helpfull with whatever you need. Look something up on their own internet, call, brought a nailart stylist to the casa for us and we went out with him and his friends for a real cuban night. What more can you wish of your host!.
Other comments: Our stay in Havana couldn't have been better, thanks to this casa, the owner and of course the location.
Next time we go back, for sure!
