My review: An elegant colonial house overlooking a large attractive garden and with a spacious columned veranda. The casa particular consists of a small flat within a large colonial house. It is run by three women, two sisters and, I think, a daughter. We had a comfortable ensuite room with air conditioning. One of the sisters speaks a little English.

Amenities: Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Garden, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room was comfortable, but a little gloomy. There wasn't much space, but it was adequate.
How was the food they offer?: There was a wide menu and the food was reasonably good.

My husband and I reserved a room with a house in the Rough Guide, but when we arrived, we were referred to Armando & Belkis' house. Unsure of what to think of being sent elsewhere, we looked around town for another home and finally came back to stay. This was the best decision we made in Cienfuegos. The house, built in 1952 by Armando's parents, is a perfectly preserved American-style 50's suburban home with original furniture. An en-suite bathroom has the best shower I took in Cuba with hot water under pressure - the addition of a small water tank next to the shower head made all the difference. The room was cleaned daily with even the toilet paper turned under, hotel-style. The couple are so sweet, and their children and grandkids are also friendly and helpful. We were ! welcomed to a family party on the new backyard party pavilion and danced the night away with Armando's grandson and his friends! A real highlight of our trip! We could hear the baseball game just 500 m away each night and watched with the family on the TV. Armando called casas for us in the next town and provided information on things to do in town. I watched him call everyone he knew looking for a room for a girl coming to town from a friend's house. He enjoyed using his limited English with us and welcomed us warmly. Belkis warmed up to us and was absolutely wonderful and helpful. The house is just a block off the main street and an easy walk to the rest of Punta Gorda and La Punta. It's a pleasant 10-15 min walk or $3 taxi to the centre of Cienfuegos along the Malecon. Despite the central location, it's a quiet neighborhood for sleeping. Armando scoffed that we were only staying at houses in our guide book, as so many good house don't make these books (like his!)! , but this one deserves to be listed.

Casa Henry y Lalita
Address:
Ave 42 #4913 (altos)

I would highly recommend this casa. We stayed here for 3 nights. The family was very friendly and helpful and put up with my pidgeon Spanish (and helped me out with words and phrases).
It was very clean - had it's own bathroom, with hot running water. And Lalita's cooking is great - don't bother going anywhere else to eat - she gives you a great breakfast and then you have a choice of dishes for dinner.
It's a great location - central to everything - terrific for walking, which we did a lot of.
We would definitely stay here again.

Myself and three others have just come back after a month long trip to Cuba where we were visiting as medical students and tourists. We stayed in an absolutely lovely casa in Cienfuegos for just over 3 weeks and Id like to recommend it to others who are planning to go to Cienfuegos.
Rooms start from around 20 CUC a day depending on season
Breakfast around 4 CUC
Dinner around 8 CUC
Eliza and Miguel have two spacious rooms to rent to tourists. One room is a twin with two single beds and the other one has a double bed and a television. Both rooms have an en-suite and are fully equipped with air conditioning and fridges. There is also a large terrace to enjoy.
Eliza and Miguel are incredibly warm and friendly Cubans, always ready to help whether its recommending places to visit to making sure youre well fed. They offer breakfast and dinner (maybe enquire if lunch is also an option) and I have to say, the food is just delicious. The house is also impeccably clean. Having stayed at two other casas whilst we were in Cuba we really began to appreciate the fresh linen and spotless room wed come back to everyday at our casa. Eliza really takes pride in her home. Another good thing about this casa is its location. Its a five minute walk down to the Paseo del Prado and Cienfuegos Boulevard where all the best sights of Cienfuegos are located. We really loved our time In Cienfuegos with this great family. I hope some of you will have the opportunity to do the same!
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Safe, Children in the house, Patio
Amenities: TV, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Rooms are comfortable and well equipped with a fridge and air conditioning. One of the rooms also has a television. The rooms are cleaned everyday and are spotless. Fresh linen, clean floors and clean bathrooms everyday which is just so nice to come home to.
How was the food they offer?: Food was brilliant! Sometimes they get a chef in to do the cooking. Regardless, you will always get a delicious and filling meal. We had breakfast and dinner only but compared to other casas and even restaurants we were really impressed with Eliza's culinary skills as well as those of her chef. None of us were meat eaters and there was no problem explaining this to Eliza who made sure we had what we wanted to eat everyday.
Other comments: Lovely house, delicious food, beautiful people and brilliant location.
