CASA JULIO Y GLORIA
My review: Julio and Gloria are the nicest people! The house was charming and very clean. This was my first trip to Cuba and everyone I met was so friendly. Road Scholar arranged the trip so they choose the casa particulars and we thought we got one of the best!
How was your room?: The room had air-conditioning and a private bathroom, both of which were very clean.
How was the food they offer?: The meals were good. We especially enjoyed the home-made guava sauce (like apple sauce).

CASA JULIO Y GLORA
My review: Gloria and Julio were the most amazing hosts and this was simply the best casa we stayed in while travelling around Cuba!
We arrived from Trinidad and Julio picked us up from the station. We were then brought back to the casa and welcomed with fresh juice made from their own pineapples.
We told them our plans and Julio offered to take us on two day trips to El Nicho the beautiful waterfall, a crocodile farm and the bay of pigs to visit the museum and snorkeling. All of which were charged at a much lower rate than any of the tours provided within Cienfuegos. Julio was a brilliant tour guide!
As a group we spoke little to no Spanish and Julio and Gloria speak little English, but we all managed to communicate very well and by the end we felt like part of the family. It also happened to be my birthday one of the nights and they both went out of their way to celebrate it with us, making a feast of salt baked fish with all of the accompaniments, beer and sparkling wine AND a birthday cake alongside a beautiful coconut icecream which was a personal favorite of mine. They then took us to a local celebration that was happening in the town square and out to drinks after. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday
We also had the pleasure of meeting their two Chow dogs (Nadal and Rodger).
I would highly recommend this casa as it we felt truly at home with Julio and Gloria and will definitely be back!
How was your room?: The rooms were clean and very well decorated with en-suites. Fresh towels were provided.
How was the food they offer?: We ate breakfast and dinner in this casa every night.
Breakfast: Fresh Fruit (Papaya, Pineapple or Guava), Eggs, Toast, Coffee and fresh fruit juice.
Dinner: Classic Cuban dinner of Fish, Chicken or Pork with Beans, Salad, two types of rice and Julio's home made salsa which was delicious.
These were amazing and totally set us up for each day and were very cost effective.
Other services they offer: Trips to El Nicho and the Bay of Pigs. Julio also was able to take us to Havana at a considerably cheaper cost than local taxis.

Casa Julio y Gloria
Julio and Gloria are the best hostes u can get. they will welcome you in the sweetest way possible, gives you the best advices and discuss on every subject! The beds are really confortale,hot/cold water on demand, clean and healthy, the casa is well located (10min walking from the center of the city) and easy to find coming from "la baya de cochinos", the breakfast really nice (especially the fruits juices, make your choices!) and last but not least they have two wonderful dogs (chowchow : Roger and nadal!)... If u pass near by Cienfuego and want calm and comfort while enjoying the chat with some really nice cubanos, don't think twice, go there!!!! :)

Casa Julio y Glora
My review: Julio and Gloria are fantastic hosts. We've stayed with them three times now and it’s one of the most beautiful houses we’ve been to in Cuba. After letting them know what time the bus was going to arrive, Julio came to meet us at the bus station and drove us to the house. The room was beautifully appointed, clean, had air-conditioning, a fridge and a private bathroom. The bathroom was also really clean, bright and had hot water.
We opted to have breakfast and dinner in the house which was both delicious and economical. The fresh fruit juices that Julio makes are amazing; mango, orange, guava, pineapple, guanabana! He normally makes the juice with fruit from their garden or their neighbour’s garden. The dinners were incredible as well, different types of rice, salad and pork or fish or chicken. We even had an asado (barbecue) with pork. Gloria’s flan is highly recommended and her dulce de guayaba, as well!
They really made us feel really welcome and at home. We could sit in the living room, watch TV and sit out in the garden or on the patio. There’s a hammock in the garden. It’s a really relaxing, quiet place, but such a short work to the Malecon, the Prado and the Boulevard. From the house we also walked along the Malecon to Punta Gorda.
Gloria is from the city of Cienfuegos and knows a lot about the area. Julio is from the countryside, near the El Nicho waterfalls. We organised for him to take us there, as a day trip from Cienfuegos. We had a great day swimming in the clear waters of the waterfalls and eating at a small paladar, which is run by old friends of Julio. We also did a day trip to Trinidad and Playa Ancón whilst being based at the house. Both times we organised for Julio to drive us. |
